I ran across a very very cool HR. Giger art gallery today. So far its the most complete + highest quality (in both detail & size) scans I've seen of his work too. Its got all his ALIEN stuff, and tons more.

For those who don't know who HR. Giger is, he's a rather talented, although quite demented artist whose art is.. well... kind of in a class of its own. Very WIERD stuff to look at, some of it downright disturbing, most of it sexually charged. But its strangely intruiging, and is quite good art.

His most famous works are the Xenormorphs you all know and love from the ALIENS movies. He was the original creator of the likeliness (as you can see in his various art), from the eggs, the face huggers, the chestbusters, and the fully grown ones. Also he did a ton of the design location design (crashed alien ship) and other stuff.

<b>DISCLIAMER</b>: While it would be childish to refer to his work as porn, a lot (and I mean like, over half) has a very sexual theme to it or has lots of sexual undertones. That's just his art style, and is part of the intrigue of the art. If you're not mature enough to consider it as a piece of art because there are these depictions, or if you are offended by such things, then I suggest not visiting the gallery.

So without further ado:
<a href='http://www.fred-katrin.de/' target='_blank'>Therion - H.R. Giger Gallery</a>

Check out <a href='http://www.fred-katrin.de/giger/alien/alien01.htm' target='_blank'>Alien 01</a> and <a href='http://www.fred-katrin.de/giger/alien/alien02.htm' target='_blank'>Alien 02</a> first, as those are the most Xenomorph related.

And if you think the work he did on ALIEN is wierd, that's actually this most sane stuff he did. The other stuff gets REALLY wierd. Very intresting stuff.

I think my favorite piece of his is this one:
<a href='http://www.fred-katrin.de/giger/alien/hr_giger_alienhieroglyphics.jpg' target='_blank'><img src='http://www.fred-katrin.de/giger/alien/0hr_giger_alienhieroglyphics.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' /></a>

<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>I just realized how the thumbnail makes this pic look kinda bad, but trust me its a work safe pic or whatnot. Damned good too.</span>

Just thought I'd pass along this great link.

If the mods think things get out of hand because some people won't be able to handle a gallery of art, feel free to lock this.

Hmm, the Alien drawings are great, but I dunno, i've seen so damn much artwork like that in games, other drawings, movies, etc, it just completely fails to impress me at all anymore...

He has got some pretty amazing skills, those alien drawings were pretty impressive. However, most of it was too weird for my taste.

Interesting. Kinda reminds me of DooM.

Very talented, but highly deranged artist.
Some choice quotes from the Alien Quadrology DVDs:

"I, err..., I wanted the alien creature to kiss the people to death"
"I wanted it to have big, full lips. Erotic lips. Erotic lips to kiss them with."
"And when they are kissed, it is like SPLURGEAAAAAAAAAGASH with the mouth exploding, and so on"

I think all mappers should come here before making a map. There is some serious inspiration for maps here.

Also, I should add that this is what hell looks like for me. Pretty much all of the landscapes and most of the others.

Agreed. Giger was always something... "Out there" for me... Which is awesome. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yeah, once you see his art it becomes quite obvious he was at least a partial inspiration for some of the textures in DOOM (wall of flesh & souls textures) and Quake, and also i'd wager on System Shock 2.

    Seconded.

This guy has amazing talent-unbelievable. To comprend and draw such weird and abstract, yet real things, is a great feat. I really don't want to know what goes in the mind of this guy, but his art is very cool. I wish he could draw normal things, like that bird one...

BTW, I found out his art gallery is in Las Vegas, which I think I shall be taking a trip to in the summer. Guess where I'll be going? :D
