First, it was "6/10 Americans live in poverty." Now, this? Are you feeling ok, communist?

    --Edit--
You even posted in the original "Peak oil" thread... Just... Wow.

We don't need petroleum. We can make plastics from soy-oil and we have plenty of energy sources besides oil(the black one). Even if cold-fusion never works, we can get energy from sun, wind, water, renewable energy sources and non-renewing as well, such as uranium.

At least I won't start screaming quite yet, and you shouldn't either unless you have a lot of oil stocks.

This is all complete rubbish that assumes things will remain constant. They assume populations will just keep increasing despite food not being avaiable. Like animals, people don't breed if they can't even feed themselves. Yes, I know some cultures will have children as a symbol of power, but generally that is true.

So our population will not double ALL the time. It will peak when food production peaks, if that ever occurs.

Second, the only reason why we still use fossl fuels is that they are cheap. I agree, if all the gas in the world were to just vanish tomorrow we'd be in trouble. But guess what, that's not going to happen. As oil supplies decrease, the price of oil rises. As the price of oil rises, 2 things happen: the traditionally-more-expensive alternatives such as hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and the rest he mentioned will rise in market share. Second, people who used to drive SUVs now will use public transport or walk or whatever.
When the alternatives rise in market share, they will also be more heavily developed and refined to be as efficient as possible. By the time oil really has dried up, nobody will be using it anyway. Worst case scenario these energy sources will be 3, 4 or 8 times as expensive as oil, we will pay it. Naturally we will have to give up other leisuural items to pay for it, but we're not going freaking extinct.

    I especially love this quote:
"Ethanol is an energy negative – it takes more energy to produce it than is obtained from ethanol."
Well no ****. That applies to all renewable energy sources. It even applies to fossil fuels, which are even more inefficient because tons of plants had to die to produce that oil. The sun is going to keep burning for years and years. As long as it keeps doing this we will have unlimited energy.

This is TEXTBOOK DICTIONARY demagoguery. My god look at these quotes:
You need to take the issue of oil depletion personally and seriously if you want to live.
Society begins to collapse. Conditions in the United States begin to resemble those in the modern day former U.S.S.R.

It's always interesting to hear what people not in the oil industry have to say about the oil industry. My Dad has been in this field for years, and believe me, there are buckets and buckets of the stuff. What a looney.

Because it'd divide the argumentation, effectively making one possibly productive threads into two unproductive ones. Only post new topics about already discussed subjects if a significant change has happened.
