<div class="IPBDescription">Is possible to run NS3 on non-Steam HL ?</div> There is any kind way to run NS3 on non-Steam Half-Life ?

We would like to play Natural Selection in a lan party, but we won't have internet connection there (we'll rent a large room for it <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> - but we can't get a internet connection there to validate steam accounts <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

I remember to see some post in vet forum about this, but can't find it...

Someone know if this is possible ?

    Steam can be used off-line

Offline play was just patched in this week. Log into steam like usual, then exit without logging out and you will be able to open it without an internet connection the next time.

Make sure all PC's are offline mode ready.

    To check this,

Right click Half Life in the Games window,
    Click Properties,
Check whether next to Offline Mode: it has Ready.

Also make sure the last time you close Steam before the LAN event, you choose just Exit, not Exit and Logout. Then you should all be ready to play NS offline <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

If you don't want to use steam entirely and have 1.6 CS non-steam install handy in your computer.... you may copy your nsp folder from steam and paste into onto your valve folder in program files.

From there you would make a shortcut on your desktop along the lines of something like this:

Target: "C:\Program Files\Valve\hl.exe" -nomaster -game nsp
    Start In: "C:\Program Files\Valve"

And there you have it. NS 3.0 client beta 3 play, without the steam. If you try to log on to steam servers online, it will say that 'it requires steam to play.'

Now, if you want to distribute NS to your friends without steam or CS1.6, copy your valve folder (minus cstrike) on to a CD, and tell them to copy the contents onto c:\program files\valve and to paste the shortcut to your desktop or whatever.

I tried this, and it works. I will be installing NS to my friend's lan business so we can finally enjoy some offline NS play:)

About offline mode I saw at steam page...
but many lan houses just don't have a internet connection to do this... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> (or the lan house owner don't want to someone steals the steam accounts destinated to lan house pcs... valve don't have a solution to this (hopefully... yet <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->))

And thanks TankBuster for you suggestion
    I'll try this <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Question, if i were to put the nps\ folder into my half-life folder, with CS1.5 installed, would that work or not at all? Worth a try?
[EDIt: Hadn't read tankbuster's post, i'll try that...]

Um, the solution is that you get Steam working at home before you go to the LAN.

Worth a try. I'm not sure how the shortcut would look like though, since the Steam install doesn't give you any executables to work off of.
