Skiing
Doing a school project for the time being. In order to be able to tell if the subject we're working on actually has some meaning, we're supposed to do some surveys, and I thought this might be a good place to get some random test subjects. So if you don't mind, I'd like some basic info <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
A. Have you been on ski holidays, and do you ski regularly?
B. Do you spend your time on- or off-piste?
C. What do you think about the risk of accidents while skiing?
D. What do you think about the risk of skiers getting lost off-piste due to avalanches, getting lost or other such causes?
E: Do you think there is need for equipment to help track such lost skiers (by transmitters in ski boots or other parts of the equipment)?
Thanks in advance, it'd make my work a lot easier <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

A - yes I have taken ski vacations, not regularly enough though
B - if piste means groomed slope, then on-piste
C - there is a risk, but not a big one if you don't bite off more than you can chew...
D - I think people who ski in those sorts of places know what they're getting into, and probably LIKE the risk...
E - but if they can afford and want expensive GPS tracking equipment, then more power to them, I'm sure there's probably a small demand for it but it should by no means be manditory.
B. I prefer deep powder through woods to a groomed slope, but both can be enjoyable. I'd say im mostly on-piste.
C. It's a sport where you can die. But I figure that youre gonna bite it at some point, dont worry too hard about it. I always wear a helmet off-piste though.
D. What do I think? If youre enexperienced enough to get lost, stick to hills where it is next to impossible, till youre better.
E. If you want it, go for it. Shouldnt be mandatory, some people prefer that extra bit of safety is all.
B. Mostly on piste but i do go off piste
C. Bah iv been skiing almost 10 years and only broke 1 bone last year due to disgared litter.
D. If they are going to get lost they shouldnt be off piste alone.
E: Personaly I have the reco system in ym jacket and boots, its cheap and easy to implament, it makes me feel slightly safer.
There you go.
I ski using Head Cyber XP 80s :-p

E: Do you think there is need for equipment to help track such lost skiers (by transmitters in ski boots or other parts of the equipment)?
A. Yes. On holidays or long weekends
B. I like deep powerder stuff, such as helicopter skiing, but mostly normal stuff
C. I broke my leg once, but I usally am not to concered with it.
D. Big risk in any place that isnt designed for it (aka blowing down big colections of snow)
E. Not needed, but would be pretty helpfull if you fell and lost a ski or pole in deep powder.

1. Just came back from Aspen, Colorado. I have been skiing almost every year during the holidays since I was around 6-7 years old.
2. On.
3. If you are new, just stay off the black courses and go slow. Then you wont run into any trouble. If you ski drunk, too fast or too hard courses, risk might be pretty high.
4. Most skiing areas I've been to (both in Europe and the US) have great maps, good signs and clearly marked off pistes (is that spelled right?). Avalanche danger isnt that high, pistes will be closed if it is; the highest avalanche danger will be off piste anyway.
5. No.
B: I like downhill skiing on groomed slopes. I believe that's on-piste, but I've never hear that term before.
C: Minimal if you know what you can take and what you can't handle; and then don't overstep your abilityies.
D: Rare on good slopes. IE: here in Colorado, slopes at-risk for avalanches are hit with explosives to cause an avalanche when no-one is around.
E: If you hit the untested 'extreem' slopes (ones not checked by the avalance patrols) it could be worthwile. Needed? Not by most - but it could help for the hardcore jumpers.
No, but I did maybe a couple of times
B. Do you spend your time on- or off-piste?
On. I can barely ski so I try to stay where it's possible for me
C. What do you think about the risk of accidents while skiing?
Not much more than I think about the risk of accidents while in a car (which are far more dangerous) Sure it happens, but hey, accidents are everywhere
D. What do you think about the risk of skiers getting lost off-piste due to avalanches, getting lost or other such causes?
The skier should be experienced enough to know where it can or cannot go and should thus go where needed. If he has not that experience, it's to his own risk. I think it's useless danger, but then again I never tried it since I can't ski correctly
E: Do you think there is need for equipment to help track such lost skiers (by transmitters in ski boots or other parts of the equipment)?
They already exist. There's even some sort of inflatable thing you can put in your bag and you pull a string (like a parachute) so you stay on top of the avalanche as much as possible. Transmitters already exist, and of course, the usual orange and noticeable colors are to be used. If you go off-tracks, use these.
what are you on?
snowboarding owns skiing, skiiing is so old fashioned, but if it counts in the survey ill say mine
A. Have you been on ski holidays, and do you ski regularly?
i've been on 3 holidays but i dont go that often
B. Do you spend your time on- or off-piste?
on piste, im not good enough for off piste yet <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
C. What do you think about the risk of accidents while skiing?
as long as you don't outstep your boundaries then you should be very safe
D. What do you think about the risk of skiers getting lost off-piste due to avalanches, getting lost or other such causes?
if they go in high risk areas, thats their damn fault
E: Do you think there is need for equipment to help track such lost skiers (by transmitters in ski boots or other parts of the equipment)?
safety is a good thing(right?)

A: I usually ski about 20 km every weekend (and when I have time)
B: Off-piste
C: Mostly the same accidents than with other sports (hurting muscles (dunno how to say it))
D: It's pretty much impossible to get lost in the places where I ski (tracks made in the forrest).
E: Well, if there is a risk of avalanches, yes. But when skiing off-piste, a cell phone or friends with you are way much useful to get help if you get hurt.
So I'd like to thank everyone in here who answered, helped me a lot <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
