Don't insult newbies.
Ok, I've been playing for a while on all these games. There are different meanings to these words
N00b/noob=Player who is obnixous and new and will not listen to advice
Newbie=New player to the game

Needs to be made clear. I've seen people calling theirselfs a n00b hoping for help only to get bashed to death by vets.
Thank you for reading this and hope you'll have a better time with understand the differance of these words.
Note don't bash the guy who has the 1 kill and 14 deaths. Help him for crying out loud. Hes going to rot like a bad apple and become a CS 1337 speaker(n00bz lhalala ownzors, don't want those people in NS do you?)

How can people help others with scores of 1 - 14? That's their own problem, other people can't controll the newb and let him score better, he's got to do it himself.

As for the noob and newb part, do you really care if people name you wrong?
    Get a live :\

you CAN help them. For instance, a new player, who changed his name in the config joins a game. He goes aliens, and 5 minutes in, people start yelling at him to go gorge, so he figures it out, all the while not saying hes new because he doesnt want people to be mean to him. He runs around, and manages to figure out how to drop O chambers or some such thing, then suddenly a skulk starts crack hopping around him screaming "HEAL ME FATTY!!!!!!! WTH!!!!! HEAL ME YOU freaking NUB!!!!!!!!!!"..........then he responds how? and the player insults him again and runs off........ instead of simply telling him to press the 2 on his keyboard, then fire repeatedly, which in turn heals other players. That takes all of about 3 seconds with voicecomm, maybe 5 without, roughly the same time the player spent insulting him.

Now with scenario A, we have a jaded player who either leaves and the NS community looses what could have been a good player in the game, or he gets jaded and starts screwing the game up for everyone by whoring, and stacking.

With scenario B, we have a player who learns something, feels better about asking for help, which in turn helps him learn even more from other players and becomes a productive member of the team.

He was talking about scores of 1 - 14. Now unless those players that help have very good tips on how to get a better score, then you are right. In the other case, I am right.
    As always. ()

Good thread! This really needs to be addressed, and I totally agree:
A n00b/noob/nub is an obnoxious new player who is heard headed and nieve, thinking he knows it all. However a newb/newbie, although still new, is humble and receptive, knowing he must learn the basics first. N00bs are targets for aggression (and rightfully so), newbies are taken under the wing of those more experienced. Newbies blend smoothly with the flow of traffic like when entering a highway, n00bs play chicken with on-coming traffic like when driving while drunk.

Navck is quite right with the mistaken status thing. Up till now, I've always thought that noob and newbie were the same thing.

This brings me back to the time i was playing Starcraft(note: this is semi related) where there was this stuck-up SOB who kept on spamming ban on the channel to this newbie player when we were playing on a map. But he wasnt that bad once we taught him how to play. If i recall correctly, the SUSOB left the game.

Tbh the NS atomsphere was alot better back in 1.03-1.04 as thier where alot more of us newbs and we tended to help each other out, nowadays people are more arrogant and just dont help them.

I shall and probably will for quite some time adopt the old warservers attitude of randomly calling people n00bs and if they take offense by it laughing incessently and going in for the kill due to their insecure nature. Youd be surprised how many "old skool" players cant take it, oh man its hilarious

remember you were all newbs too once.
be kind to those who know little and impart on them some of what you know.

also if its an NSPLAYER's first go and ur making him go gorge u deserve to be shot when he puts a movement chamber up first. U cant complain becuz its ur own fault. Of course he's gonna have no clue!!! Did u know WTH the chambers did first time!

okok i know there are all these nice pretty pic on the webbie so u can flame em all u like. But tell the nub this, dont just give em hell. Help em.

Just help new players... no matter how you call them, just try to help...

who listen, probably would 'grow' to a good NS player.. who just doesn't listen to tips and advices, can start to hear other players or maybe soon will give up NS and go back for playing CS and continue on it SHOOT SHOOT OMG KILL KILL HEADSHOT - WHY PAY ATTENTION TO PLAYERS ? JUST KILL KILL KILL MWHAHAHA HEADSHOT!

but if you notice the newbie interested on learn the games and play - just help him and make the NS community grow
