Coming soon to PlanetSide... Force Domes and a Capitol system! Take a looksee at the video on the Sony website. It's a quicktime video with a Force Dome being deployed/activated and some of that "dramatic" PlanetSide music I crave so much.
Check It Out....
Planetside rocks, I'm just poor... I can remember getting a MAX suit, and fending off a 30-person attack by myself (I died, of course, but not after killing 25 of them and running out of ammo). Ah, those were the days.
In SOE related news, another "omg so many people lol rofl" moment for me was raiding Kael Drakkel in EQ with my guild and another allied guild. It's amazing to see buffs rain down from the guild Shammies and Chanters on like 40+ people.
Even cooler when the pulling starts to see some 20 odd melees mobbing the giants and nukes hitting from all directions. It lags horrendously with the models on high and spell FX cranked up, but it just looks so cool. Then you get rampage flurried and end up at your bind point, but it's still fun.

Well, my machine cranks along happily in PS with only 512MB... but that's 512 of PC3200. I really should lay out for another half-gig, or even a full-gig stick. Machine would be happy for the moment at that point, and even moreso if I switched my drives over to using the integrated RAID controller to stripe a few drives together for extra-fast cache and application access.
In any case. For people just starting, GO THROUGH TRAINING. Pick up every weapon, armor, and deployable you can in the VR sim. You get experience points for it. Then go into the vehicle training session, rinse and repeat. Make sure to man EVERY turret position on every possible vehicle. You can gain a quick three to five combat ranks (skill points) just by doing the training and looking at EVERYTHING with the little spinny logo over it (which means you haven't encountered one before).
Personal recommendation is to go through training like that, then grab the UNIMAX certification. Quickest way to assuredly rack up EXP (and more CRs, by extension) so you can qualify for the other cool stuff.
I'd also lean people toward the Vanu Sovereignty as a faction. ^_^ May not have the best weapons, but their MAXes are the most mobile, equipped with jumpjets (meaning you can just leap over the base walls rather than walking around through the front door).. and the Lasher heavy assault rifle can be devastating when used en masse. Similarly, their tank (the Magrider) can just float over bodies of water. Need a quick escape or to get past a fortified bridge? Keep their attention on the bridge, then SLAM them with a brigade of Mags from the flank.
$ony sucks for the simple reason they try to rip you off at every god d**m turn; just like Micro$oft.
Shattered Galaxy is better, for it is a mix of StarCraft/Diablo/XCOM. You control a tactically efficent squad of 6 (minimum) to 12 (maximum) units, move them about attempting to take and remain in control of Points of Contention (PoC's)
It's part Diablo because because you have to walk around, attack places with your squad of units, and when you succeed in a fight you gain exp points, as well as your units. After you gain a level you get a skill point to place into 4 different skills: Mech Apt, Clout, Education, and Tactics. Mech apt allows you to stuff more stuff onto your mechs by increasing their weight capacity. Clout increases the ability for you to get new weapons and soldier types. Education decreases the requirement for you to equip items to your units. For every 10 tactics you can bring 1 more unit onto the feild; as well, whoever has the highest tactics on one side will instantly become that side's battle commander - letting you lock/open/restrict the fight for your side.
Part XCOM, because there are aliens to fight and many different places to place equipment on your soldiers.
And possibly the best part about Shattered Galaxy... You can play it for free. Despite being retail, you CAN play the game for free but with some restrictions: You get less exp from fights, you cannot move onto other planets, and you cannot participate in a large percentage of gameplay methods; You cannot become a side's leader or participate in politics, for example but you can still fight.
And just to say, because each player can have a max of 48 or so units "in storage" and can only bring out a maximum of 12 at a time a player will bring in possibly 4 waves of their units! And considering that the units themselves can gain levels, this leads to long, but exciting battles.

Shattered Galaxy on the otherhand allows you to continue to play even if you do forget to pay for your subscription; so you can buy the game from the box, and play it for as long as SG lasts and never have to pay anything extra - only problem is that you're stuck on one planet and can only get a certain # of levels, and can't reincarnate, etc etc.

Yeah, I remember Beta Testing PS. It was a seriously fun game. Then the beta tests ended, and you had to pay per month. It almost made baby menkey cry...
So anyway I remember one of the best assaults I was ever in. There were 3 galaxies filled to capacity with soldiers (including me), then we went to the place we were attacking. There were already about 5 tanks laying down siege on the place we were attacking. Then the galaxies drop the soldiers off, and I run around back just to find an enemy soldier trying to get away. I get into a firefight and kill him, but when I run inside the building there was another two keeping guard. Then I got killed. Though we won the battle in the end!

Actualy now that Ive gotne back and thought about it, the best teamwork I ever had in a multiplayer games were in these three occasions.
1. StarWars Xwing Vs. TIE Fighter.
In large LAN games it was such great fun to have a small strike force of Y Wing bombers make a torpedo run on an Imperial Class star Destroyer while being covered by your X and A wing team mates and Z95 Headhunter escort friends.
Rushing in as a bunch of TIE interceptors players rush straight at you just like in the movies.
2. Counter-Strike MG yes i know.. CS Way back loong ago when it first came out I was in a very competitive CS clan. With mandatory practices jsut for handguns and everything. Lots of tryouts etc.
But oh did we have teamwork. I remember right before they had implemented voice chat my friends would have 3 way teleconferences on our normal phone lines lol.
3.ALIEN vs Predator 2 X-Coop mod Like Sveen Coop lets you play single player missions co op. Pretty cool to run around a dark infested facility with your friends with assigned roles. just like the movies.
Unless you know the people you are playing with its so much harder on the average to just organize a bunch of random people in just any server.
Ok just played Alleigance for the last couple of hours and all I can say is "wow".
I mean the game is so detailed and everything is thought of, it just makes me cry when I see only 2 servers have people playing
The visual part though also isnt that stunning considering the fact that it is a 2001 game and looks reely ugly, but that doesent really bother you since the game itself is so good.

Once more Sony jabbing you with the rust spork of "Yeah, we'll give you new weapons for $29.99 US. However, they can only be used in the newer areas..." etc.
Rule #1 of business - make the customer happy so they come back. If you give them new areas/weapons/other stuff for free and dont increase the subscription price your popularity will only grow and people wont scorn you for giving them a crappy expansion that costed $29.99 US. Why? They got it for free and dont feel "cheated" if they're dissapointed with the new update.
If ANY of you guys would like to join me and my friendly (nubs or otherwise) squad, then you can PM me, X-Fire me, or look at my signature for other contact details. It's great fun and we'd be happy to have more fodder for the assaults :-)

The details are all on the site.

Actually, they come set like that, which is great. Just make sure ASGS and SOVLogin are in the same directory, and all will be fine. Just gotta register on ASGS, and you can start up. The community is great- almost no idiots(and those that are idiots, are pretty light). And it requires just as much teamwork as NS(aka, if your good, you CAN survive on your own, but not for long. If you go as a team though- its all over for the other team, unless their working together.

It actually seems like a good game...
The download was 30 meg and the install folder is 250mb wich make me giggle
Do you have a reason for believing this, or do you just have some misanthropic hate for any company larger than a dozen people? If Sony were half the wallet rapists you claim they are, the PS2 wouldn't have been backward compatible.
2. Counter-Strike
MG yes i know.. CS
Way back loong ago when it first came out I was in a very competitive CS clan. With mandatory practices jsut for handguns and everything. Lots of tryouts etc.
But oh did we have teamwork. I remember right before they had implemented voice chat my friends would have 3 way teleconferences on our normal phone lines lol.
3.ALIEN vs Predator 2 X-Coop mod
Like Sveen Coop lets you play single player missions co op.
Pretty cool to run around a dark infested facility with your friends with assigned roles. just like the movies.
Unless you know the people you are playing with its so much harder on the average to just organize a bunch of random people in just any server.
I mean the game is so detailed and everything is thought of, it just makes me cry when I see only 2 servers have people playing
The visual part though also isnt that stunning considering the fact that it is
a 2001 game and looks reely ugly, but that doesent really bother you since the game itself is so good.
Microsoft really surprised me with this one

Core Combat is worthless.

If ANY of you guys would like to join me and my friendly

or look at my signature for other contact details.
It's great fun and we'd be happy to have more fodder for the assaults :-)
