For a sec there i thought this was gonna be one of those replace buildings with boxes posts, poly count still looks reasonable though.

PG, CC, armslab, res nozzle and TF are very nice.

but all other models now look a bit... strange now imo (especially the RT )

but GJ

Why does it matter if they look strange. This is to help people with more low-end machines so why complain about how they look. Look fine to me for the amount of polies reduced. Thanks for posting that screenshot.

Most of what you did was delete parts...
With a bit more work, you could of reduced the polycount by making just simpler shapes.
• ctxctx Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4592Members
Point? Some people may want the default buildings but with less polygons, and here they are. I'de prefer a low-poly default model over a simple boring box. I'll have you know that deleting parts, creating new faces, etc was more difficult than it would have been to make some bland simple shapes.

hehe.. BlackPanther knows what he is talking about.. he have made many "real" lowpoly marine structures aswell as som awsome models for the community.

What a waste of time this must have been then. So he made some stupid squares for buildings, I don't care. I wanted default models that still looked okay but with a reasonable amount of polies taken off, that's what I did. It was originally for myself but I thought it would be nice for anybody else who wanted the same thing. I guess I just wasted my time though since it's obviously a horrible job compared to BlackPanther's godly little simple shapes. You can never please a Nazi.

Your stupid. he made default models with less polys all animations and parts left THATS REAL LOWPOLY BUILDINGS not just stripping parts from them... Try to act a little more mature next time and know what your talking about.

Maybe it wasnt even even BlackPanther who made them on second though but it doesnt matter cuz they have been done.

Anyway you just made a fool of yourself for nothing.

Isn't there something in the rules about NOT flaming people and hijacking their thread? I'm not going to start a kiddie name-calling war with you, THAT is stupid. Get the hell out of my thread jackass.
• NottinghamNottingham Join Date: 2002-11-26 Member: 10002Members
I didnt start this your the one who did.. just cuz I said that blackpanter know what he was talking about. You flamed both me and blackpanther and made a fool of yourself.
and if you call this hijacking your even more stupid...
Anyway your one of the two persons on this forum who have lost all my respect by now.

Wow, calm down guys, you're both flaming each other.

But as to the models, yeah, a lot of them look extremely odd. The IP looks quite cool like that, but the res node just looks like a strange mushroom. The armoury looks good, except that the slots look strange. Perhaps reskin it to get rid of the slots on the side.

The turret, however, is missing it's most vital part, the actual turrt. Right now it just looks like a tripod with a stick on it.

Nottingham raises some good points however, rather than just deleting parts of the models, how about actually taking some time to do proper low poly-models. Even if it means starting the model from scratch and just using the same skin. I guess if you're desperate to cut down the polycount ingame, these will do, but from a purely aesthetic point of view, they're quite bizarre.

Listen man, we appreciate your effort. But just because you put effort into something doesn't mean it has to be perfect. People are giving you slight suggestions, and your flipping out. Just calm down, and everything will be ok.

I know I'm just frustrated, but I'm going to redo all of it so no biggie.

ctx, there's a difference between critique and criticism (as I define them, anyway). Criticism is unproductive and incendiary, aimed at belittling the target. Critique is constructive if sometimes blunt, but more importantly it is aimed at helping the target improve.

To all parties: always keep in mind that any critique is, at most, a suggestion. If your work is critiqued, take it with a grain of salt. Use what you like about the suggestions, leave what you don't. If you are critiquing someone else's work, don't push the issue if they are unreceptive. No use getting in a fight about it.

I think all parties overreacted here, which is unfortunate.

ctx, it's unfortunate that you've removed your link; regardless of the opinions expressed in this thread so far, they looked pretty good to me and probably would have been good for people with low-end machines. It's always nice to have options. However, keep in mind that everyone's got opinions, and you don't always have to listen to them.

Nottingham, you were out of line. Please respect your fellow posters, or you'll find yourself with a nice little solitary seat in the corner.

CTX: I apologize for starting this flame war. Was not my intentions, beleive me. It's my own fault for making such a blunt post. I should of explained myself better.

If you want to a do a better looking low poly pack, you'd be best off remaking them from scratch from boxes and cylinders while still keeping the same shape overall and all of the peices.

-Things like the legs on the RT can be redone with 2 boxes.
-The Armory can loose it's intrusions between the panels. The panels themselves can stay the same as they are.
-The IP can be done with simply a cylinder extruded inwards 1 time.
-Your PG is fine.
-The armslab can be redon without the intrusions and keeping the display on the main body.
-The CC can be permanently closed and all of the polys inside deleted.

etc etc..
