Spectator Bugs = Cheaters?

<div class="IPBDescription">is this a sure sign of cheating?</div> I've noticed quite often on combat that players with impossible scores (eg 100kills/5deaths) seem to have some kind of 'bug' that prevents spectating. Is this a side-effect of some 'buggy' effect that blesses them with tiny hitboxes/reduced damage or is it a sure sign of cheating?

The spectator bug either shows no-one at all or shows a different player (always the same player per connection) and you can often end up spectating players from the other side. Also, the players with the bug always seem to have their names at the top of the pull-up spectator list.

Also some players this happens to 'seem' to have a valid steam-ID in the 'status' list but some players have the tag: 'Steam-ID Pending' which seems a little odd to me.

This always seems to happen to the same players over and over and it would be nice to have some clarification on this issue which many seem confused by.

I'd like to know more about this, because I've heard mention of a 'spectator bug' but never saw it in action...

That's a different one, Disco. The one you've probably heard about is the bug by which spectators can appear in the map, and somehow manage to kill people.

Bots have ping 0 and you can usually spectate them. They look like people with aimbots except they have trouble navigating around the map.

Actually, they can haev higer pings. It all depends on the server. They do not fluctuate though, and will usually be bellow 20.

Why would they have a higher ping than zero? Bots are generally <i>on</i> the server, aren't they?

I have seen a game hosted before where the bots on my server were above 0. It was just a slow comp I guess.

Uhhh....just to clear it up, bot pings range between 0-10. It usually remains static unless the server CPU is under very heavy load.

BTW, as for the bug....must be a flaw somewhere in the jointeam code or something. But I don't remember anything going wrong in all of my games in the Beta <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Maybe except those random bugs that occur, like weapon1 not working (it did this to me in a CO map, and I was on a killing spree)

Bots have a 0 or 5 ping, they just do...

    As for a funny unlimited-hp thingey <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> , go onos on canyonwar v2, and win the game, you will still be out of the rr, but be a ready roomer <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Did you actually see killmessages by these 'suspicious' people? Because theres a bug where a player will show up as joined in the list, but actually still be connecting and not even in the readyroom. And since he's not there, you can't really spectate him.

Also, I've seen some not be removed from the scoreboard or so although they're just speccing the new round or aren't on the server anymore.

maybe I should add some clarification to this:

these are real players - playing in action , talking, fragging, ...etc.

They have proper pings and most of the time have proper id's in the 'status'.

They just seem 'too good' to be true and seem to have weird hit-boxes as follows:
when they're right in front of you, as HA rine / evolved alien only 1/3 of hits seem to register (even when they're standing still) - it's almost as if they've got the hitbox of an LA/skulk.
for example: As an alien, they seem to be able to roam around cc for 3 to 4 times the length of time that other similar aliens survive (with the same upgrades/movement/etc).
Additionally, as onos, they seem to have amazing devour skills - whether you're flying, ducking, dodging, jumping, they seem to be able to devour you (ALWAYS) with incredible speed and accuracy - suggesting some kind of aimbot/autofire.

The bug is as follows: they normally appear in the top of the pull-up list for spectating (and seems to be independent of the number of players playing). When you select them from the list (or when you cycle through the players) you get one of the following:

-a 'fake' rine player standing in the control room (normally staring at the armory) that is devoid of other players (who are actually there) - very weird. The name listed at the bottom is often the name of the player.

-a view of another player (sometimes from the other team - which is a major bug because you can see what the other team are up to). The listed name (at the bottom) is NOT the name of the player viewed although the hp/armor readout is from the player viewed (often you can spectate skulks with '600 hp'!!!)

This always happens to the same players (although it is not restricted to one player per server so I don't think it's server side) and recalls to mind the anti-spectator hacks in counterstrike that were used to hide aimbots.

    ---

Side note: the ready room bug is where players (after a round is ended) are not sent to the ready room, but remain in the game map instead. They are invincible although they cannot bite/fire. All they can do is run around the map distracting others. All the players are listed as being in the ready room and you can spot a rine with this bug because he has no weapon (as in the ready room). This is very common and can be quite hilarious when you see a 'gestation egg' running around rine cc - jumping around and generally looking very daft while noob rines shoot each other trying to kill it.

sounds like the bug in cs, altho that bug is random, as ive seen it on lan, and its not an anti-spectating hack. So yeah sounds good, id like to see this first hand.
