how to actually get NS
[U][COLOR=blue] ok as you all know, from the topic i am new to NS. Actually I'vs never played it. A friend recomended to go here to get insight so... here I am.

How do you get the actual game, do you buy it, do I download it? So I am here to ask for help. If you know, if you just download the beta 1 + 3 or if ther is a spot I could go and get it.

Please answer, it is part of your duty as a rule says in the sign up sheet to be as helpfull as you can. I am not asking you to slave all night and day to help me. Just to do what you can.

Thank you for your time.

No need to threaten or anything... some people here are helpful without being required to be.

Go to the front page of the site and click on "Downloads" -- it's a free mod for HL, so downloading and installing are as simple as the instructions on that page.

Erm, you need to make sure you have Half Life and STEAM installed and working (and all patched up to the current version)

THEN you can DL the Beta 1, then Beta 2, and then the Beta 3 patch. You can also download the NS 2.0 if you wish, but I don't think you should (unless you got the extra hard drive space )

Then find a friend or a nearly empty server and hop in! Ask the people in the server for help on playing (Voogru and Guns4Back2School are somewhat noob friendly as long as you listen to what the vets have to say )

Just don't hop in the com chair on your first game, or else they'll both boot ya... tho I think they might enjoy having a nub com that isn't a lamer idiot

Hope to kill... erm... see ya in game! ^-^

NS is a mod, so you only need to pay for Half-Life. NS is free. Make sure to download the full install first, and then the beta 3 patch.

You know, there's actually this forum called "New Player Forum". I'm not 100% positive, but I believe your thread would be better off there

Important advice for the new player: read the manual.

Even more important advice for the new player: ignore that part of the manual which tells you new players should start with Combat. It's full of dirty lies. Combat is the devil. You can play it if you like it, but do not in any way, shape, or form, attempt to use it to learn how to play real Natural Selection. You will fail miserably, and people will relentlessly make fun of you.

combat for noobs isnt a good idea for wut i think. but in 1.04 when i was new (server had natural-selection admin and some other ns mods found here Click ) Well the point is regular ns is better to start with as ur learning stuff like (well i never read the manual about this but it seems that i was doing fine with the extremely helpful help of cl_autohelp 1 and some players) how to follow orders and copy wut everyone is doing and building and knowing that u should keep ur mouth shut about most things and let cl_autohelp 1 (which is like reading the manual while in game step by step) help you. The main point is that regular ns really teaches u the main ideas and points of the game and combat well its generally in testing as a new mode in the game and it doesnt explain much about the game because well to make it short combat is really not ment for first trys and ns and combat are really different in ways if you think about it.

Most important thing in ns - TEAMWORK!
    Main points:

Stick together - your chances of survival are much better with someone else. Also, they probably know what they're doing

If there's a space in the team that needs filling, something that needs to be done, DO IT. You'll learn all about them as you play

In ns mode, NEVER drop a sensory chamber as your first chamber. People's arms will come out of your computer and smack you.

Obey your commander. If you're new, he most certainly knows better than you.

    Broken link.

Icons signify various positions of "importance" in NS. You can't just add one yourself; it is assigned for you based on SteamID/WonID.

Blue star like ones are Constellation members; kind souls who have donated to NS. They also gain access to the Constellation Forums.

Yellows are vets, Flayra has a neat little TSA logo, Green are admins, Purple are founder-members or something...

There are quite a few. Search on General discussion. It's been askeda few times there.
