I think generating some ideas about the true point of this topic is more important.
Maybe I'll read some more tomorrow and write something else, but right now I need to sleep.
I've always taken "facts" and "statistics" with a grain of salt, and especially after having read about the sheer b.s. and fabrication that was Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine"... I have to wonder exactly how much of the "facts" in that video are accurate.
That said, given the majority of music on the market is 'pop' and 'popular' (that's why you hear it so damn often when you step outside), who really cares who owns what? Musicians can still make their music. They can still be heard; and for smaller fringe bands and the like, the people that the corporations produce for wouldn't care about them anyway, so... yeah. What good would a giant, millions of dollars contract or giant volume CD production do for a band with, say, a few hundred listeners? Mind you, that's exactly the kind of music I listen to a lot (small indie glam bands out of Japan), and they're doing just fine.
And yeah... we've seen this sort of "rebellion" before, with the fans of Rage Against the Machine ranting for or against this or that cause, simply because Rage does and says to and supports this or that. Hmmm.

If groups that are purely supported by the music infustry and otherwise would not exist can get millions of devoted fans, how well do you think a band who can actually get fans on their own would do?
