<div class="IPBDescription">heeeeelp</div> Ok, recently when I play NSP it lags horribly. I usually get around 50-70 ping when I play, but over the past few days it been going like up to 300 and 500 and i don't know why. Also this problem is limited to only NSP. I can play CS,DOD and all of the other "My Games" with ping around 50-70. I've tryed to restart my computer, no luck. I've reset my router, no luck. I've unhooked my router and connected directly to my modem, no luck. Does anybody know why this sudden increase in ping has happened? It's driving me mad, I want to play NS >_<

Just FYI, the reason you were lagging was because the steam update defaulted a lot of people's rates to 1500 for some reason.

What exactly does the "rate" command do? Does that set download/upload rates or something?

Basically rate just sets your internet connection speed. Changing your rate is the same thing as opening steam settting and changing from 14.4 to 256k dsl. I had the same problem, but I just went to steam settings to change it. I'm guessing 1500 rate is 14.4 modem connection. Though I'm not sure.

Another possible problem and solution would be Steam resetting your connection speed. If changing your rate doesn't work, give it a shot.

    Step 1) Open Steam
    2) Click settings
    3) Click the Internet tab
    4) Select the correct setting
