While looking at the PHL website, I saw that the Hostile Intent team is using a "new" technique that makes textures look sharper than usual. I was wondering if NS uses such a technique, or, if not, if this "new" technique will work its way in.

<a href='http://www.planethalflife.com/hostileintent/' target='_blank'>http://www.planethalflife.com/hostileintent/</a> (check the alandalus screenies).

*EDIT* Saw this thread..... <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=62384' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...showtopic=62384</a>

Yes, NS mappers know of detail textures, if I'm not mistaken there is a thread about it in the mapping forum.. All it really does is put an overlay on top of the textures that adds on, well, detail. Its currently also being used in CS:CZ
It doesn't really make textures sharper. Just puts another one over the current one.
Also, its not really anything mod specfic. Any map can use it.

Oh, yeah.. and its a steam only feature.. It was impemented for CS:CZ, and they didn't announce it getting put in. People just kinda figured it out themselves <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
GJ to the guy who did hi_andulus (sp), ithat is a good example of how detail textures should be used, unlike cs:cz, that fails with them...

Man that rocks! It's kinda of odd that Valve wouldn't announce it though, Mods are what made Halflife popular, they should have the decency to tell all the mod authors new options made available to them by announcing it to HL News Sites or something...

its been in steam since it came out, i had it in my ultimate image quality thread for consties way back when, but it never did anything. with detail textures now downloadable you can use it. They probably aren't telling anyone about it since thats how cs cz works (probably) and hl2 prolly implements something like that.

It also doesn't work with older video cards; I believe they've narrowed down the range of non-working cards to include (at least) the MX-series NVidia cards (GF4mx, GF2, etc).

Since this is already being talked about <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=65168' target='_blank'>here</a>, I'll just close this one up.
