<div class="IPBDescription">Arrow keys usages</div> Yesterday, I had taken the position of commander. It was the first time I did it in 3.0 . I had done it about 7-8 times in 2.X

I noticed that the when I started to hit the cursor keys, the pointer didn't react. I had to press them a couple of times before it started moving.

Is this normal or is there somekind of acceleration setup I can change ?

As far as I remember, the arrow keys are supposed to move the battlefield view, not move the mouse cursor.

    Doh !

    You'r right. I didn't explained it right.

I meant the moving of the whole battle screen while in command chair.

Using the arrow keys doesn't seam to move it right away other then hiting those keys often until sufficient acceleration is acheive.

Here's the problem: I believe this a bug from 2.x in that it forces you to follow the same path as a marine when you are commanding. In short, the commander cannot move "through" walls while using the arrow keys. If you press arrow key up and in your commander view there is a wall or map boundary in that direction you may have to continuously press up until it has negotiated its way around the boundary. This is very annoying, seeming as the commander, unlike the marine, has no use for walls and boundaries (other than floors and ceilings). They should make arrow key movement not be hindered by the presence of a map boundary. Here is an example:
    ------------------
    |
    |
    ---------\ \
    ''''''''''''''''| |
    ''''''''''''''''| |
    ''''''''''''''''| |
    ''''''''''''''''| |
    ''''''''''''''''| |
    ''''''''''''''''/ /
    ''''''''''''''/ /
    ^
    VIEW

so in this sad imitation of a minimap the white space is open space, the lines and dashes are wall boundaries and the "'''''''''''''''" is "black" or "null" space on the map. While commanding you will find using the arrow keys to move (unlike the mouse) will constrict your movements to ONLY the white space, thus if your view was positioned in the spot marked by "^VIEW" and you tried to press the up arrow key, your screen will attempt to scroll, but get stuck on the map boundary. Holding down up will work much like pressing walk into a wall: at first you will go nowhere, but eventually if you are slightly angled you will walk, very slowly, along the wall. The same holds true for the commanding view. Because of this I've given up totally on using the arrow keys (which were my mainstay for Starcraft and the reason for my super-quick unit organization!) and just use the mouse to drag the view on the minimap. This has its advantages: you are able to use the hotkeys (qwerasdfzxcv) instead of using up your free hand to negotiate the arrow keys and you can move faster. However, if you're accustomed to SC skilled play (using the arrow keys) you will notice you can no longer move your view AND select units at the same time/drop equipment. In fact I'm almost tempted to post this in the bug section. In fact I'm going to do just that!!!
If this is what your experiencing I think I cleared it up, if not I just wasted a whooooooole lotta forum space!

Nice post @nthony. I agree that this bug exists, but I dont think it was found in ns2. But hey, I could be wrong. So many different server configurations were being used by the late ns2 stage things got messy.

I personally navigate only using the "Jump to med/ammo request" buttons, the squads, and the mini map. Scrolling and cursor keys are too slow. Possibly for distances mesaured in cms, but nothing more.

    Keep up the good work.
