I am assuming you are using Macromedia Fireworks right?
If YES, Execute following:
File>>Export
You take it from there. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Grab GIMP, open your PNG in it. Choose 'save as', switch to .JPG or .GIF, and save. Be warned, the alpha layer on the PNG (if there is one) will not be carried across. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<a href='http://www.irfanview.com/' target='_blank'>IrfanView</a> can convert them, too. I like IrfanView, since I can view pretty much any image file in it.

then in the file name you save it as go with
"whatever.jpg" or "whatever.gif"
making sure you use the ""'s.
There are alot of other ways though <_<
