Impulsive Downloading Due To Irrational Fears
<div class="IPBDescription">gg, me</div> Is there anything that great about Mozilla Firefox that makes it worth keeping?
I ended up getting it recently due to some viruses that seem to have cut into my mail, (apparently I've been sending virus infected mail which has been intercepted, but I've scanned the HD and I'm clean).
So I downloaded Firefox and Thunderbird. Now, I can understand keeping Thunderbird, cause Outlook Express does have security issues, (and I hate how it always oepns messenger) but Firefox? Any reason I really need to keep that?
Basically spent a lot of time trying to configure it, and it really annoyed me:
1. Cache folder can't be accessed except through the browser itself, and its very cumbersome way of browsing through the files. Even though it may not be as safe, it's a heck of a lot easier with IE just by browsing through the temp IE folder.
2. Bookmarks - GOD this **** me off. You can't do the simple drag and arrange from the menu anymore. The bookmark manager was completely useless, as none of the information translated on to the actual menu when you opened it (until I found out you needed a plugin). Even with the plugin, it was really irritating when I'd set it to arrange alphabetically, at which point the bookmarks were completely stuck (I want to arrange it the folders are on top, then the individual bookmarks alphabetically ordered going down).
3. Doesn't work with Flashget very well. After downloading the plugin, I found that it doesn't let you simply choose when you want to use flashget or not by rightclicking. Even when I choose "Disabled Browser Monitoring" it would still pick up Flashget while trying to save.
I did like the fact that it runs Java a lot more smoothly than it does with IE, and looks a tad bit more chic, but other than that, I don't really see any reason why I should use it over IE. I already have Proximitron installed, only ad-killer I'll ever need. Is the security threats with IE that big a deal? I'm ultra neurotic when it comes to space, but at the same time, I'm a freak of nature when it comes to making sure I have the latest updates, all the plugins, etc. I don't want to be bogged down with extra crap I don't need.
Anything to convince me to keep using Firebird?

Simply put, its faster and better than IE. I never really had any problems with the bookmarks, and Flashget is bloated crap. Get an older version of Download Accelerator Plus, before it got uber bloated as well.
Well, I certainly hope so. Let me lay out a few points for you:
Firefoxbird is immune to .JPG trojans which have been plaguing IRC lately (.jpg files which execute malicious code on your system, you can get them even if you don't use IRC)
Firephoenixfox is VASTLY more customizable than IE - a quick browse of the extensions page and you'll see what I mean. Many, many features can be added quickly and easily, there's far too many for me to list them here.
Firebirdfox is also growing constantly. New updates and extensions are released all the time, which makes it much more adaptable than IE. Although in the interests of neutrality, one could also count downloading updates as a flaw. I kinda like it, it's like Christmas every few months <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
Tabbed browsing? Integrated popup blocking, without the need for running an external utility or mucking with Internet options? The joys of quicksearch (just being able to type "google blah" into the address bar to search google, and set your own quicksearches as well!)? There's a huuuuge amount of features that most people don't even use or know about.
Convinced you yet?
starting to get used to it, likes tabs; dislikes fact that I can't play Kung Fu Chess, bah, I have that game on my block list anyway because of its addictive powers
Hmm... I'll give it more of a chance before it faces judgement in the eyes of the recycle bin.
i use my bookmarks a lot, and id like to organise them
but its absolutely useless, even the manager
i want the folders at the top, then the rest below sorted by name
doesnt workkk
and i cant move anything, let alone folders...
I seriously don't have any problems with my bookmarks nor managing them =/
Just to make sure I totally reorganised them right now with the 'manage bookmarks' option and everything is where I put it.
Obviously me saying this doesn't help you but it'd be nice to know why mine seems to work fine without plugins while your install doesn't o.O
Opera is immune to the viruses, has its own download manager, looks a lot better, and also has tabbed browsing.
Favorites operates by an "add" button where you can click and drag where you want, as well as make folders. You can sort it by name, date visited, folder, description, date created...
This tab also has mail, contacts, history, transfers, and links all organized in one little tab.
main reason I posted that was just to poke fun at you though XD
I suppose I should really try opera again. I hate tabbed browsing but it's easy enough to turn off, but last time I used it the main factor putting me off was that it was so incredibly chunky and ugly looking =/
Meanwhile lil firefox/firebird I got looking nice and sleek within very little time and with little effort needed. Still, opera's bound to have improved since I last tried it... if I could only convince myself to give it a second go ^^;
Oh the DEMO version...I uh....bought it. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Despite the fact that its rendering engine is horrendously out of date, doesnt support lots of very useful CSS selectors and properties, and generally has quite a few bugs (margins, box model, text sizes). Most wbe developers deisng with IE in mind, not <b>for</b> IE. Everyone I knows designs to standards, and then has to include horrible IE fixes.
I like generally like Microsoft products, but they need to get their act together with Internet Explorer.
I now use Firefox, forced to look like Internet Explorer (so I didnt have any usability problems from the transfer), and I am enjoying it. I dont use the tabbed browsing, their Bookmark system is a bit flakey, and the new download thing is rather pointless, but I am greatly enjoying the decent rendering engine, and the wonderful <a href='http://www.chrispederick.com/work/firefox/webdeveloper/' target='_blank'>Web Developer Toolbar Extension</a>. Remember, its still in Beta stages.
Opera is a decent browser (better than IE, again), but I find it rather slow and bloated.

And what program is so flawed that it allows code to be executed from a .jpg(due to an unchecked buffer that can be overflowed?)?
but it looks crap <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Actually, that's just my Windows theme. The interface is unskinned. (They support skins, but they're only for buttons and colour schemes.) You can totally customize where the buttons are and what toolbars show up.
