Doom 3 X-box Gets Co-op...
<div class="IPBDescription">...no co-op for PC though.</div> <a href='http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/news_6091261.html' target='_blank'>Via Gamespot</a>
Once again the PC gets shafted in the Co-op department, a la Halo.
I can pretty much cross it off my to buy list right now.
(Unless it is really, really, really, really good in single player.)

oh yes, there will be mods
Didn't some one make a mod for Halo PC that adds co-op? (And most poeple didn't like it b/c it just aint as niffty as sitting next to your mates as you rock some alien arse?)
Especially 1st person driving in Halo...now there's fun (it's hard, but fun...especially if you flip the jeep).
Oh oh oh! Where?!
Yeah, there's always going to be Mod with X-Box won't get, and HL2's cool.
Graphics.
I'm sure that Doom 3 will be either:
A) Laggy as f***.
or
B) Running on medium-low graphics quality.
And not to mention the huge-arsed controller the X-Box uses.
Had a lot of fun with JDoom and that stuff co-op over the net.
There isn't the same feeling when you can just shout 'yo, some one take out that frikken sniper' and some one does <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
that and the factor that there are just to many stupid people out there that enjoy griefing....
Personaly, the best games I ever played were LAN games of BF1942.
Set the AI all the way up.
Make the team balance so that it would be the 3-7 of us vs 20+bots.
Procede to kick some ARSE! or get our bums handed to us <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> The close games were the best <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

NOW THAT IS FUN MY FRIEND!
One of our favorite (and rarely one) amps consisted of... bugger forgot alot of stuff:
One of the teams starts of controlling 6 or 7 spots (3 of them being front line)
The other team has to push fowards (or use a small track around the bottom edge to get to the last spawn)
Generaly, the first 3 spawns are lost quickly, and then the next 2 (or 3, can't remember) are fought over for some time. Finaly the defenders GENERALY get pushed back to one spawn and throw everytihng at it till the timmer runs out.
This would involve 2-3 people sniping form our base.
1-2 people shelling like crazy (tanks generaly)
and 1-2 of the psychos (me included) going assault and holding off the brunt of the assault by use of houses that they had to pass <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Regardless, there will be mods to add Co-op, so I wouldnt worry.
It works when it's done right... it sucks when it's not <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I often get together with a group of around 4-6 friends and get a game of Sven-Coop running. Everyone knows each other, everyone is using voice-com to talk, it's just great fun.
The only two games I can think of that shipped with Co-Op mode are the Serious Sam series, which lets you play through the whole game in co-op with a large number of skill settings available to tweak it, and No One Lives Forever 2 co-op is also great fun while it lasts. Unfortunately, you can only play through 6 smaller co-op missions which are set in single-player locations, but are different missions. They're short but fun.
OOOH, and the Descent games have Co-Op too.
--Scythe--
DAMN IT!!!
Jeez, its like both DOOM3 and HL2 took the same train to Stupidville. At least there's The Twin Snakes...

DESCENT!
Oh man, a friend and I would jump on every day after school and try and get the highest level we could...
Man, level 10 was hard, even when the two of us were spamming plasma rockets and level 4 quad lasers...
*sigh*
*This is my 100<u>th</u> post! YAY!*
So, it's very dissappointing to me to see all these potentially great games having their replayability and general goodness reduced by the lack of co-op.

i second this!
first one to give me a link gets a cookie...
a HUGE cookie!
Ever play with clannies on TeamSpeak? It's just as fun in my opinion.
But I have to agree with Gem here. It seems like developers don't even know people <i>want</i> co-op.

But you see that's a part of the problem. id started doing this crap with Quake 3, and now they're continuing to do it with DOOM 3. Rather than coding the crap they should be coding themselves and officially supporting they just "oh well the mod community will handle that part...". Really stupid. I mean when nobody was getting coop in DOOM 3, that I didn't mind so much and could understand that they didn't want to take the time to implement it blah blah blah. But this? This is just an outrage.
Come on id, I know you're not broke, I haven't seen any ferarri's up for bid on eBay...
Edit: On second thought, that didn't show enough rage or hate.

...k I'm done.
Lazy developers.
Thank God someone said it, I was going out of my tree.
