Certain issue is a problem..
My old ball mouse is acting sticky and just not as responsive as it used to.

This is my old mouse (wireless ball mouse):

I've tried the Logitech MX700, but it doesn't work for me.

I look side to side by setting my wrist down on the mouse pad, and pivoting my mouse from my wrist. When I got the MX700, I tried using that same pivoting motion to look sideways, and it moved the cursor diagonaly. I'm not too sure if it was caused by this individual mouse, or if most optical mice respond like this. The only way the mouse would move the cursor left and right perfectly horizontaly, is if I moved the mouse using my arm, making sure I moved it perfectly parallel (Not rotating it AT ALL.)

The bottom line is (if you understand what I'm describing):

I'm trying to find a good optical mouse that the issue above doesn't apply to.

EDIT: Forgot one thing, I don't think it's just me. It doesn't do the same thing with some cheap optical mice I've used.

hmm I've never really thought about this... and even though it's probably not what you're looking for, my best advice is probably to get used to moving your mouse parallel... it's really the standard way to do it, so it's better to get used to it now rather than later... slide your wrist over the desk as you move it, instead of pivot... takes just as little movement and such =p

or you could always get a trackball... :-/

    I'll go give the MX500 a shot.

How long is the cord on the MX500?

atleast for my logitech track ball the mouse window has a tab called motion.

in there you can try and play with it to see if it works.

I sue it to realigne the mose so I can hold it at an angle

Is there much different between the mx510 and the mx500?

I got the MX500, and it works great!

I found out why the MX700 was messed up. The optical sensor on the mx700 is of to the side. The optical sensor on the mx500, and any other normal optical mouse is directly in the center.

You'll get people's comments on plenty of Microsoft and Logitech mice, and you can read up on what's the difference between an MX500 and an MX510.
