    OMG Someone who hasn't a clue about what they are talking about.

    Actually it incorporates all of UT2k3 just as an extra really, if it stood on its own it would actually be more content than UT2k3 actually had entirely. The entire game however is a substantial upgrade (particularly in engine optimisations) over the previous one.

    A bit more than an expansion really, and in fact the game is being sold far cheaper than normal full releases as well.

    if by 2moorrrow u mean thursday because omg I went out to EB today and was like okay gonna buy ut2k4 and then I almost did but they said they didn't have it and pointed to the release date board all smrty pants like and said: "look see it is coming out on the 17th and not the 15th lol u r dum for thinking that" and I knew he was bsing me because the press release says 15th and now I am angry. bb didn't have it either (best buy for non knowing third world inhabitants). so I think now I might have to just wait longer (<!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    Is it really worth the buy? I want answers from someone who isn't a die hard UT fan.

    If you like action based shooters where the people against you can take loads of hits until they die then probably yes.

    I however am not interested. The high point of UT was the first one 2003 and 2004 still have the asstacular gameplay that puts me right off.

    I'm more interested in Battlefield Vietnam TBH

    I would say Ut2004 is worth it,cause of the mods. Troopers(Star Wars mod, Wich Lucasarts wont shut down btw they got permission to do the mod or somekind of other arragment), Red orchestra(WWII mod) and many others wich will move to Ut2004 from Ut2003.

    I'd already found the Red Orchestra mod, but didn't know about the SW mod, which sounds like a good one if Lucasarts are OK'ing it.
    I was practically considering buying UT2004 just for Red Orchestra...

    It's a shame that Epic couldn't have released UT2K4 instead of 2K3 as the Unreal Engine's flagship title. The sheer amount of content 2K4 offers I think would have been a lot more appealing to gamers - there's still a lot of people who don't like 2K3 on just gameplay grounds, which is fine, but with Assault back and Onslaught added as well as the amount of everything included, those complaining about 2K3 just not being enough should have nothing to complain about now.

    It'll be interesting to see if this title can pick up the slack in the Unreal engine mod development base - there's just not a whole lot of good ones out there and what mods ARE out there don't really get played that much. 2K4 should be a much better test of the engine's mod development potential and support than 2K3.

    2k3/2k4 are superb engines for modding, but there's generally a lot of misunderstanding surrounding it that puts modders off or makes people think it's not as ridiculously flexible as it is. When I heard it used 'unreal script' I just wrote it off immediately associating 'scripts' with the kinda stuff you use to set up levels or events (like in HL). Later when I actually tried it I found it actually closer to java/javascript and it's incredibly powerful, you can make just about anything you want short of maybe an MMO =o

    As for the game itself I loathed 2k3 for it's quake-scale damage. Players seem considerably more resilent and weapons either less accurate or having less splash range =/
    Unfortunately the damage/weapon scale is still there in 2k4 but the vehicles somewhat make up for it, that and I'm more interested in it's modding scene, without which I wouldn't even look at the game beyond the demo =P

    The mod community should be better in UT2004, as they're releasing the game with loads of tutorial videos on making stuff in the editor.
    I can't wait to get my hands on the tutorials, as I'm quite interested in the capabilities of the editor and engine, but I've never really tried anything, because there weren't really any good tutorials in UT2003 as far as I know(Correct me if I'm wrong).

    I'm looking forward to it! <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    There's plenty, you just need to know where to look ^~

    Unreal Wiki was a lil hard to navigate for me at first but I quickly found my way around eventually, there's also some site or other that I think is closed now but I've got all the tuts off it; it taught everything from making a new camera system (3rd person games and the like) to all kinds of other stuff =D

    There's lots of other scattered sites I used too... admittedly the information isn't quite as easy to stumble across as HL but considering the age difference it's no real surprise ^^;
