Mic Static Issues

Unknown static
I just recently bought myself a new pair of Plantronics Audio .90s and was surprised to find that, occasionally, while playing NS I could hear much background static (with loopback on). I tested it with my old microphone (Audio. 40) and the same thing happens. Sometimes when I restart my computer it is fixed, but more often than not theres that weird static that just drowns out your voice. This is in my basement with nobody home so there was no "actual" background static. I even unplugged the mic and still I could here the static.
Then I decided to test it on some other applications and found that when I recorded on WaveStudio I could hear a similar form of static. This led me to conclude it must be something wrong with either a) the physical Hardware or b) the drivers, here are my audio specs:
SB Audigy 2 (although the same thing used to happen to my SB Live! Value too)
Plantronics Audio. 90
THX Altec Lansing 5.1 Surround Speakers

The only other conclusion I could come up with is intereference. Is this possible?
Anybody have the same problem?

Do you have a TV tuner card in your computer right next to your sound card? I used to have very staticy ins and outs until I moved it a couple slots away.

If that doesn't help try a different set of drivers. If that doesn't fix it whip out that warranty card and pack that baby up.

No, I don't think so, just maybe the vid card. I've experimented with this and found that if I turned off my surround speakers and plugged the headset into the main audio ports in the back of the PC instead of the quick-access ones in the front, the static was eliminated. Maybe the wiring from the sound card to the front quick-access jacks had to cross more interference than the ones directly hooked up to the sound card? ... its hard to speculate since sometimes they will work perfectly with out me having to do this... even still though I'll keep the current setup until things go wrong again....
