Scene Renders

How?
I've seen various people, usually making wallpapers actually render a scene (or atleast the models) instead of just ingame screenshots. This obviously makes the models look a lot better than half life does. So yeah how do I render .mdl files (what program do I need todo it)?

(if there is away to render maps aswell that would be great?)

A program like 3d exploration can do real renders. HLMV also works, and can make some pretty good results after you touch them out.

    And for maps: http://www.csnation.net/morph/tut_howtogetcsmapson3dsmax.php

normally to render a model i would decompile the model, make it a 3ds file, import into cinema 4d and work from there

i like to use Bryce for renders as you can put scenery into the pics. not sure if you can with cinema 4 tho.

    examples:

I mostly just use a screenshot taken from HLMV and use photoshops lighting and other effects to shade the model, I have used 3dsMax a couple of times either is good
