I read a similar post with a supposed fix for it, but it hasn't helped.
When i exit the game the whole thing locks up my pc. Windows manages to recover, and i can usually shut doen the game from the XP task manager. This includes typing exit/quit in console and clicking the "quit game" button. It takes bloody ages to recover, and was wondering if you guys know anything about it.
The problem suddenly arose from no where. I might have installed something, but i certainly havent messed about with the steam settings. It only crashes when trynig to exit in game mode. All other steam games exit fine, i.e. cs, half life etc.
Also, sometimes, NS crashes ingame randomly (quite rare though) in the same "style" as the exit crash. Except when windows recovers, the gamma is all messed up, and i HAVE to reboot to return it to normal.
Specs: AMD Athlon XP 2600+, 512mb DDR333, GF4 MX on board gfx (temp card), 1mb conn, Win XP SP1/2, SBPCI 128 sound, Steam NS 3b3.
I should probably re-install it, but i really dont want to go through updating steam again!

I have the same problems, random crashing, booting from servers, and gamma issues.
The way I fix the gamma problem when I have to forcefully log out of NS, is go to the desktop. Once there bring up the games menu for Steam. Double click on NS, let it load, and then exit the game...Your gamma should be back to normal. (It works for me)
The only other thing that I have heard is disconnect from the server, and ctrl-alt-delete to bring up your task manager and then end task on NS....Haven't tried that one.
Hope this helps.
unfortunately the game crashes when i disconnect aswell (typing disconnect in console and clicking the button on the escape menu) i forgot to include that in the original problem report.
come to think of it, it DID start happening after the steam update. it didnt effect any other games though, perhaps i should re-install ns?
1) First, delete the ClientRegistry.blob file from the root Steam folder.
2) Then delete platform.gcf from the Steam/SteamApps folder.
3) Then start Steam back up. It will say that it's updating, though it's just downloading those files again. Let it do so.
4) Start up Natural Selection and try to exit. It should work.
Hope this helps!
