2.0 Not Working

I can't seem to get ns 2.0 to work. I can't use steam for non-related reasons. I use the all seeing eye to find servers and when I try to get into one my whole computer freezes. It gets to the screen where it has the picture of the 2 marines and the first line ( NET PORT whatever) but then no more. I have to reboot, I can't ctrl+alt+del to restart. HELP?
My system:
AMD 1800+ ~1500Mhz
GeForce mx440 64mb (yeah alright don't laugh)
1gb DDR 266 ram
plenty of hard drive space
Win Xp Pro with SP1.
I have downloaded the most recent graphics card drivers from nvidia.com and have never had this sort of problem with any other game.
