A guy says he's made a bipedal robot out of a mini cooper, and has videos to back it up. I'm guessing it's a hoax but it's still pretty freaky.

That's surely fake. Maybe the model is real, but it isn't a walking takling "big-o" fully equipped with machine gun revolvers and photon blasters.

A really, really good hoax. Robotics are still at a point when the correct coordination of an arm in faster movement is nigh impossible to a machine - something like this is just out of question.

Just glancing at it, it does look a bit complex to be a hoax. I'm pretty sure I heard about this on the news somewhere, too.

Actually, I wouldn't be too quick to call it a hoax. I've worked on robots with the F.I.R.S.T.* program, and if 15 kids, a few engineers, and a couple corporate sponsors can make a fully functional robot out of a box of parts and scraps, I bet someone could make a Mini-cooper robot.

*FIRST - For the Inspiration & Recognition of Science and Technology. An annual competiton where kids from the ages of 12+ make robots to complete a certain objective. These aren't your little "fit in a cubic foot box" sized robots - these are real 120+ lb. robots made out of aluminum frames with electronic components and pneumatic tubes.

[EDIT] I will admit though, the waist joint and legs look a little shaky to hold up a torso that big.

This reminds me of the final project my brother had to do in his computer engineering major. He had to build a robot which you could put a pencil on, and the robot would move in the appropriate direction to keep it from tipping over. It used 4 sensors (one for each direction). Say, are any of you having trouble viewing the videos? All I get is a "get the plugin" box, even though I have Quicktime.

I only had problems with the "battery test" video. Maybe you need to update quicktime? I wouldn't know, im not particularly computer savvy.

It seems like a resonably decent hoax. The "traking" ones would be really easy to fake. I'm betting on stop motion miniatures for anything showing the.. uh... thing. Of course, I could be wrong (hey, its been known to happen) and this guy is some sort of super genious.

The sketches are intelligent, but totally general. Basically it looks like it's from an engineer w/ a good imagination.
For those of you who have had physics, it's just some force-body diagrams saying 'look, there's force here, which translates to torque, blah blah'

EDIT:: Yup, light tracking indeed. Watch as he walks by the "robot" and his shadow is not projected on the robot, but THROUGH it.
