<div class="IPBDescription">Info</div>I've searched n searched using mutltiple keywords in all possible combinations and then just gave up..
My friend says that "if an alien can cloak then that is just a bad mod"...gah..ignorant fool..anyway, I thought a little about it and it came to my mind, that I dont really know exactly HOW cloaked a skulk is and if it drains energy etc and I cannot find this anywhere.. and since so many changes are beeing done with the RCs I just thought that it would be nice to be enlightened of the current state since that will prolly be the final for v1... any PT wanna fill me in?
looks?
energy drain?
duration?
can he be spotted if u stand close enough?
etc.. just anything u can think of regarding cloaking ability =).

You however, can move VERY slowly (slower then walking) and not uncloak. Marines can ONLY see cloaked aliens if they use scanner sweep, have an observator, or are VERY observant. Aliens that are cloaked also do not appear on motion tracking, as they are still.
Depending on how many sensory chambers there are up at the current moment (out of 3) depends on your transparency. Having 3 sensory chambers makes you nearly COMPLETELY invisible, unless your in a dark area. (light area+cloaking = invisible).
Turrets can also not track you while your cloaked, and ANY alien class can evolve cloaking if they want to. It's quite freaky walking down hera's fog corridor to see a level 5 comes charing out of thin air and crushing your skull.
Hope that clears up a few things.
(there is no duration, there is no limit, besides stillness, there is no energy drain) <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
OMG ROFL!!!!!
monse = winnar
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i wonder what game it could possibly be seeing as this is the ns forums
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
As for cloaking, shouldn't we call it "evolve photophores" And then note cloaking in the explanation?
It's called, being smart and:
1) NOt charging into the oldest trick in the book (ambush)
2) Calling your commander for a scanner sweep before you enter.
so, you cant hold crouch (which is the skulks wall climb anyway) to move any slower.
<!--EDIT|Silver Fox|Oct. 18 2002,01:05-->
So u can actually, in theory, sneak (by crouching) two Onos inside a poorly defended marine base at superslow pace, beeing fairly cloaked and evade turrets and then just wait for marines to be present, pop, dash bang >=).
Imagine the horror: "I am just gonna lean against this perfectly innocent wall and put my gun aside for a little smoke and..GAH!".
and u could, also in theory, get past any marine defences without a marine or scanner sweep present, by just cloak-walk past it? hehe, w00t.
One more question, are u still solid while cloaked, i.e could u stack 3 skulks ontop of eachother and just...scare..stuff >=) ??
Also, a question: why is it that cloaking is more effective in a brightly lit area than a dark area? That seems counter to logic to me, but I have no idea what the mechanics are or how it looks like, so my logic could be wrong in this case. Is it because visually a partially visible alien sticks out in a dark spot, or is it due to the mechanics, like in a darker area, cloak less, etc.?
Actually, it seems logical to me. The only way, in theory, to cloak is by reflecting light a certain way, and less light to reflect, then the less cover probably.
I was under the impression that cloaking appeared the same way it does in Science and Industry, for example, where the model just "fades," without any real distortion.
Anyway, I don't see the point in talking about this much more. I'll see it for myself at release. =)
Hold a piece of glass up against the sun. Then place it on a black surface. Which one allows you to see the scratches better? Its much easier for our human eyes to see changes in the colour of dark objects.
In other words, Inexorable got it correct. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Yes, you are still solid. Nothing is funnier than seeing a squad of marines come up against a fully cloaked Onos blocking a corridoor.
