<div class="IPBDescription">changelog mainly</div> Despite the Specialists going through a rough time, changing some developers and misc. annoyances, I'm happy to report that the mod is indeed not dead.
<a href='http://forums.specialistsmod.net/viewtopic.php?t=12939' target='_blank'>Here</a> is where the changelogs are.
From the front page news: Game is in the closed release-candidate mode (ie it's feature complete and just needs tweaking), apparently it's a pretty good version, and barring catastrophe we should see it reasonably soon.
Some highlights: Real STEAM compatibility, The One mode actually works now, mac10 replaced with UMP (dunno how much different it actually is though), and various changes to most of the things people complained about or used to grief with in 2.0.
And, here's a little gem that would be great to include in NS too: To prevent admin abuse via turning on cheats, doing something evil, then turning them right back off... "'powerup' command and other such cheats only work if the map was loaded with sv_cheats 1." That's good thinking.

Think of the coolest action sequences in the most killy-shoot-em-all action movies you've ever seen. Take a wee bit of The Matrix, stir in some Die Hard, lace with umm... Well yeah, it's all about simulating the cool action sequences from stylish movies like the above ones mentioned.
Taking people using Autos out is just a different style of play, no need to scream you suck at TS.

Amen.
But.
One, I've seen more cheaters in TS than I have EVER seen on my CS servers.
Two, it's just not as good as AHL, and never will be. AHL was the original, and the best.
Three, there's a LOT more 'OMGZ0R YOU SUCK I R0X0R J00 B0X0RSs omglol your mom!111oneone' goons than in any other mod.
I'm aware One & Three aren't the fault of the mod, but that doesn't change the fact it makes pub servering no fun. (Even as the admin. How can you kick the nub when 12/16 players are ALL the same?)

Not exactly. Action Quake 2 was the original, and non-arguably the best. AHL is just a pale shadow of it. I actually thought The Specialists was quite okay, but that a team-based last-man-standing-mode would have made it quite a lot better.
I knew AQ2, and played it a lot at LAN's, but that was when I was still 56k, so I didn't play online.
Kick them out. All of them. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
EDIT: The Specialists roleplay servers are even better. But you'd have to password it, maybe with a pub RP occasionally, otherwise you get a lot of DMing lamers. (DM=DeathMatch, which is not the point of RolePlay. I know a pub server that closed down becuase of too many DMers.)
Is there a real reason? Or did you mean to say
"Two, it's just not as good as AHL, and never will be. AHL was the original, and therefore best."
AHL is better than TS, in my opinion. It always has been, and I don't believe anything short of a substantial revamp by the TS team will change this.
I am all for the Akimbo 5.7's!!!
But the game gets boring fast, just like Sven Co-op
Not like NS where I can play 2 to 10 hours a day everyday and want to play more!
Shotgun power without the restrictions on stunts.
There certainly are a few things in 2.0 that made internet play annoying. Most of them seem to be going away (hopefully not being replaced by more annoying things), but you don't have to worry about any of that when you can just walk over and give your griefer a bonk on the noggin.
TS is my choice whenever NS has a bad release or tests my patience.
Oh, you mother of all blasphemous liars, I shall smite you mightily for this the next time we are up against one another! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

No FPS or mod can match the fun that is the stealth slippers+handcannon combo in AQ2. I played it online for about 2 years straight and I have to say that prior to NS nothing was quite as addictive as it was. Maybe it was the map design, maybe it was the hilarious speeds one could accelerate to by bunnyhopping or maybe it was the fact that even though the M4 was the king of pubs, a practiced handcannoner or an expert knife thrower could still dominate.
What I think AQ2 had that TS doesn't is sufficient weapon damage. A knife to the head or torso always killed, and a headshot meant business no matter what gun it came from. That's the spirit, and none of this Counter-Strikeish "man these CTs are tough hombres, see, I took a clip of 9mm to one and it didn't even give him toothache"-stuff. Also the fact that you could actually kick annoying snipers down from the rooftops was a definite bonus. I hope TS will some day reach the same level of pure distilled fun that AQ2 was...
the opera was more fun than AHL <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Everything else consists of two-three people who actually know how to play the game, who clearly dominate the map because diving and shooting gives you three points each time. The rest either run around or crouch with an assault rifle somewhere in the corner. It gets incredibly stupid after a bit.
AHL reached its peak at around Beta 4, I'd say, if not Beta 3. I'm hoping AUT will be great again.
And BTW- the last version of AHL...ach. It was TERRIBLE. I couldn't frickin stand it. It FELT like a mod, not like a finished game(like NS and TS feel). If they polish it some, I'll like.
