Where Are Models Kept In Steam?

All the ns models are in the /ns and /nsp folder under valve... but how bout for the other mods? Where did all the cs, tfc, and dod models go? I can't find them, and I'm worried ns 3.0 models will go to the same godawful place when it goes off beta. Help...

And sorry about off topicness... dunno where to post this.

DoD and CS are outside the valve folder, on the level right under your email directory.

the default files for such mods as CS DoD and HLDM are compiled into a new-age system that makes the constant updating less-painful for Valve...

    this is the .GCF

Meb's tools (no link because i'm busy on other things) hosts a GFC-Scape... which allows you to browse these .gcf files for the things your "missing".

the way the .GCF works is just like the .PAK back on the won system (pak files still work in steam BTW) here's the explanation as of how it was explained to me:

the files in the .pak0/.gcf are used as a last restort. the "loose" files in the proper directories are used first... so when you don't like a custom model, you can just delete it, and the game will use the pak/gcf to get the file.

this is nice for customizers, and for valve... they can constantly update, and you don't need to backup files...

    **NOTE**
Natural Selection doesn't have a pre-made pak or gcf... so unless you wish to use pak-scape and make your own, this method doesn't work for NS.
