Things That **** Me Off: Auto Insurance Prices

In Canada these auto insurance rates have been going up like crazy! I can't even drive because of the damn prices. My driving record since 16 has been impeccable, no problems whatsoever, yet as soon as they see "20/male" the price is jacked sky high.

Seriously, this recent trend of premiums rising is getting ridiculus, I'm glad to hear the government is doing something about it. I'm sure that 3 or 4 years ago I wouldn't be expected to pay 5 grand a year just to drive. Have driver seriously become that incompetent suddenly in a few years? I don't think so.

By, the way I am expected to pay this exorbitant amount for that oh so reckless driving that a 97 4dr collora can sure inspire...

When I conquer the world, You'll have REALLY low car insurance. Mostly because only people I know personally and like are allowed to HAVE cars(cut down on pollution), or because you'll be in prison(nothing personal, just have to scare the general populace into submission.).

You could always have a gender change and then your insurance would be quite a bit lower. Also such mundane details as color of the car and license plate number can actually lower or raise your insurance, yes they are THAT picky.

Auto-insurance = pain in the whale eye..but you'll be glad to have it whenever something bad happens.

But ya it's annoying. Right now i'm 19/male clean record driving a white 1995 ford lincoln continental..i want to know how much it will go up whever i get my 95-98 Nissan 240sx =X

oh well..i'm going job hunting today..wish me luck on that folks

Good luck! Hope it goes well.

The insurance prices are ridiculous. I'm 17 and I'm a guy so that doesn't help. I saw a car for a very low price recently but the cheapest insurance quote was five times more than the car itself. It's probably because there are a lot of accidents caused by drivers of my age. My friend, for example, left turning too late when going into a side road so he went into a tailspin into a sign. Luckily, no one was seriously injured (the car was packed).

Ive always thought charging you based on what your age and gender is is very very discriminatory. I dont usually throw out the word sexist, but it is.

When I rule the world, all the previous insurance company employees will be in jail.

It should be based on driving record. I've been driving for 3 years, only gotten one speeding ticket that I went to traffic school for so they don't see it. Not to mention I have never been in an accident, and the first couple years of driving are when you get into accidents.

This past 6 months, my insurance jumped by over $100. I pay $800+ a month. It's that low because I'm on it with my dad. But when I get off it, I'm not going to bother driving. I'll just get a bicycle or something.

Another pointless spam post powered by boy who lost his wings.
Just run a search for all the posts by this guy, and you will see that every single post on the first page is a 1-2 line spam.

I do not think that they will ever change their policies without government intervention, because 20yr old males get charged the most for a reason, though it is not fair towards those that know how to drive safe and responsible.

Just one thing eats my goat... I'm 2 for 2 (cops stop me, speeding tickets received), and most of my friends agree that I drive like a freaking grandma. Cops just don't like me, so my insurance costs up to 4x that of my friends who violate more laws than just the speed limits; they just get warnings or not caught. Meh, bad luck. I think I'm going to revert to riding a bike around, granted that will mean more time wasted, but then I don't have to deal with my own auto insurance.

Now, if America wasn't so spread apart, and public transport so crappy, then I wouldn't have a problem with car costs/insurance costs. Unfortunately that isn't the case. Guess I'll go back to Europe.

I moved recnetly. If you sit in the room on the top floor of my new house, you can see part of the roof of my old house. Not even 2 blocks away.

    Insurance? Jumped $600 a year...

i wasnt even supposed to be driving as my car is .6 litres over the limit for my licence. but the cops dont really care about that stuff, and the insurance is in my dads name.

Would it be legal to get the car and the insurance in your parents' name or something? The cost would be lower.

Yes its disgusting, I have a spotless record and I save nearly 200-300 bucks a year insuring it under my moms name. Thats just insane,

On top of that, my 4 door 4 cylinder 97 cavalier costs a extra $70 or so because it is "sporty"

How the hell is my car "sporty" when its a seriously underpowered family car?

My insurance is currently $2700/yr as the only driver on the brand new car I got this past August. I bring home a hefty paycheck, so this rate is hardly crippling. I've been driving for the past seven years as third driver up until that new purchase in August.

I just turned 25 a few weeks ago, so I figured I'd stop in and chat with my insurance agent to see if there was any way my insurance could now be reduced. Turns out my "new rate" would be $3500/yr.

I've still got a clean record, never been in any accidents, no speeding tickets, no warnings, the car has no mods or adjustments, and even my police record is clean. Strangely enough, the insurance company decided to increase my rate after turning 25.

As I'm sure you can imagine, this has stumped everybody, even my insurance agent. She ran the numbers three times, got someone else to do it once, and every time it works out the same - if I want to renew my policy, I pay more.

Funny how insurance companies are reporting the highest profits in years, yet they want more. Greed sucks.

Insurance companys are almost 100% profit anyway, as long as the number of accidents remain low they just hoard up cash.

There arent many major accidents in winnipeg, maybe once a month at the most in winter. 2100-4000 a year from every car owner in winnipeg is FAR more then they would ever need to pay for a major accident, and the minor bangups that happen on the roads.

Every time I hear "Oh, there were more accidents this year so we are going to raise the premiums" it really hits a nerve with me. People in winnipeg are good drivers! The wannabe street racer kids are left high and dry in winter (Lets see a nissan get over the winnipeg ruts)

Last year some asian kid wrapped his silly looking civic around a tree on notre dame, its kids like that give the insurance companys a excuse to hammer the smart drivers with high rates.

In the UK, I'm 31 years old, and pay £750 a year for fully comprehensive insurance. Thats with a 70% discount, for not making a claim in the last 6-7 years.

You might think its expensive, but not as expensive as being in an accident and wrecking 4 cars, seriously injuring 5 people, and damaging roadside signs/barriers/tarmac. I've not had an accident, but it can happen.

Also, don't forget that more and more people claim compensation for injuries sustained in car accidents, and thats what helps your premium skyrocket.

One more thing, car insurance in the UK is a loss leader, which is why all the insurance companies are offering home insurance/loans etc.

Man, reading that makes you want to crash your car on purpose just to screw the insurance companies.
