I think it would be a cool movie look to it. Plus it might scare the **** outa alot of people when an alien jumps out at them.

It would make all of NS look really dark imho... and you'd have real trouble making out anything far away.

That is a ridiculously huge task you're asking. Just today i spent forever reskinning all the marine weapons and player models with my new colour scheme. Let's put this into perspective.

Textures:
-- ns.wad: 578 textures
-- ns2.wad: 296 textures
Total textures: 874 textures.
(Excluding map specific textures, but these only amount to about 50 or so extra)

Models:
127 models, excluding map specific models, with an average of 3 skins each giving a grand total of approximately 381 skins. This is a very rough number, but still, the amount is enourmous.

Approximate grand total:
Roughly 1255 textures and skins to be redone for this pack. Yes the task of converting a texture to grayscale is simple, but let's work out some more numbers.

Estimated time to complete:
Working with an average time of 40 seconds for each skin to convert to grayscale and import / save where necessary works out at around 837 minutes. That's roughly 14 hours of non-stop work.

To sum all of this up in a simple way:
It's a lot of work to very little effect. If you wish to do this, please pick up Wally and HLMV and reskin / retexture yourself, it's a very simple, yet time consuming process.

Most popular newer video cards have options in their drivers to turn everything to black and white when in openGL mode. I know ATI does, and I'm fairly certain that NVidia can, but don't quote me on that. Assuming about 30 seconds to go into your advanced video properties and click the option for this, that's a whopping 30 seconds worth of non stop work.

Heh, was actually thinking about this the other day.

You could always setup a macro for photoshop to auto-desaturate. Then, just open up all the textures and run it.

Turn the colour saturation on your monitor right down, lol.

yeah theres ways & means to do this without re-coloring everything. de-saturate your monitor, adjust your color settings on your vid card... i think there might even be a strange little r_ cvar hidden in HL somewhere

quickest way (and it aint that quick)

get HLMV

open each model

save all the textures to a folder

Open a Photoshop clone

(Im using Adobe in this example)

open textures (individually)

Ctrl+shift+U =Desaturate

Save texture

Import new texture
^
ALL OF THEM

Save model

Repeat
