Copywriting if not already done so
couple of ideas im trademarking so no1 steals em.. unless u already thought of it in which case lemme know
1)
space ship crashed on an alien planet,
while for the moment it would be just the plain team deathmatch level, aliens try to kill human crash survivors, marines try to secure area, perhaps in later versions it would be available as a 'survival' level, where marines try to survive for as long as possible, or whatever
2)
human outpost on alien planet, being overun by aliens, pretty much same deal as the idea above but with more of a big building feel which you could see from the outside with multiple entrances etc or whatever, as opposed to the ship which would just be a big fat hunk of metal from the outside with maybe a big hole in it somewhere
was just thinking, since all the maps so far seem to be just big metal space stations which aliens have "attacked" or whatever.. what if the situation was reversed, with marines moving in on alien teritory.. probably unsuccessfully but eh
if you already thought of this and dont want me to do it then fine.. otherwise ill go ahead with it
if you think its a good idea and want to use it.. eh, knock yourself out
if you think the idea stinks/rules, feel free to tell us all

crashed ship: that might be new
I would have kept the map going but a bad computer foul up and I lost the bsp, map and basically everything else I had done.. that's when ns_odlers started...
Thats like saying "I'm gonna trademark my idea for a movie..its about war, and no-one else better do one!"
What you could do is make your map and make it so damn impressive that everything else similar looks like a cheap imitation by comparison..
Other than that..hmm

For the record: the only gameplay mode available for Version 1 is RTS-style teamplay; it's not a TeamDM, but a teamplay game with goals (specifically, destroy the enemy spawn - hive or infantry portal - and all enemies). TeamDM, Overrun, etc. are not currently supported.
i did say if you want to use the ideas your welcome to
i was just making sure noone had any objections
and thanks coil, i was wondering where that register your map thing went
btw when i said team DM i meant rts style, the one gonna be supported. it seems pretty teamishly deathmatchy to me
mumble forum trolls grumble

Have you done much research? Team deathmatch is, team vs. team where the only goal is to kill as many enemies as possible. That is very much not the case here, as a matter of fact there are scenarios that I've heard where it's best not to kill at the time. On top of that, the marines don't even have a visible score, so deathmatching is a pretty pointless strategy for them.
On a side note: I now have a copyright on this thread, posting in it without my permission will result in immediate legal action!
but for your information, i HAVE done much research, ive been following this mod for over a year, i know what team deathmatch is and i know what game type will be supported in the shipped version 1 and i can see a fair few similarities ok?
just cause i cant be bothered to spend 3 minutes writing a detailed pragraph of my outlined interpretation of the term "Team DM" and a detailed comparrison of it in relation to NS, doesnt mean im an idiot.
and yes i can see the irony of spending 3 minutes writing about how i cant be bothered spending 3 minutes writing about something so shh
btw, have YOU done much research? just cause i only have 9 posts and you have 300 and something doesnt mean you know more about the mod than me.. if you look closer, youll see i actually joined the forum long before you did, so ner.

Whoa there rambo, put down the flamethrower, I was simply pointing out that there is a pretty large difference between extremely simplistic team deathmatch(TFC isn't even Team DM) and the complex gameplay in Natural-Selection.
No one even suggested that you were an idiot, people were just poking fun at your "copywriting" things that have been around since movie cliche's were invented. So don't go on the offensive for something no one other than yourself even suggested.
To be honest, I didn't even bother looking at your post count, so let's not jump to conclusions. I never claimed to know more, at the most I was speaking the obvious. I wasn't even trying to flame you(Past the poking fun part), Flayra said himself that if someone seems uninformed don't bash them, help them. I don't claim to know more, I don't claim to have been here longer, I was simply stating the obvious:
Natural-Selection has no team deathmatch elements past the fact that the teams kill each other.
i was only joking really i dont mean to get all serious..
i just wanted to point out that i do know what team deathmatch is and what NS is going to be
"Natural-Selection has no team deathmatch elements past the fact that the teams kill each other." <-- thats exactly the "team deathmatchyness" i was talking about. teams killing each other. among other things, whatever they are.
you just seemed to jump to the conclusion that i had no idea NS was different from other FPS games eg. CS
its funny its almost as if your trying to convince me its better than other deathmatch games.. i dont blame u tho
to be blunt, i know its different and i honestly think its better too.
but bloody hell the rest of you it was just a figure of speach im not trying to literally copywright those ideas i was just wondering if anyone minded me making an NS map based upon 1 of them, or if anyone else liked the idea and wanted to use it. sheesh.
on another note.. surely you can see how stating the blatently obvious could be taken as a personal insult of ones intelect. its like telling someone the sky is blue, and then being surprised when they say I ALREADY KNEW THAT YE BLUNDERING IDIOT!

and btw i know what you mean about it not being much like team DM, how sometimes its best not to attack..
i have been playing RTS games for over 7 years now.. in fact i used to be one of the top 10 StarCraft: Broodwar players in australia.. so stick that in yer pipe and smoke it

You people are *way* too eager to jump newcomers... you need to calm down. Yes, the idea of trademarking something as broad in genre as a crashed ship doesn't really work; however, it's perfectly acceptable to "call" a rather unique idea. For instance, if I ever learn to map (not likely), I'd like to make an orbital space station whose artificial gravity has malfunctioned, putting everything on its side - namely, a sideways level. Someone else has been playing with a crashed spaceship that landed upside-down (I forget who).
Ideas like those can certainly be "called," and that's what NS World is for. Dragonfly, I'd suggest developing your ideas further - perhaps a backstory of sorts - to make your idea truly unique. Everyone else, I'd suggest you lay the heck off. If you can't think of a constructive way to correct a newbie's misperceptions, *don't*.
Re: teamDM -- Team DM is what happens in Counterstrike when both teams ignore the objective (hostages, bomb) and instead just focus on killing the other team. I said NS is goal-based teamplay because individual kills do not get you any closer to victory - the only way to achieve victory is to destroy the enemy's spawn locations - the Infantry Portal (and Command Center, so they can't build another) or the Hives. These objectives *cannot* be accomplished without teamwork... hell, a Command Center has 9,000 hitpoints!
You just cant trademark a cliche..
I still think my original post stands..
"What you could do is make your map and make it so damn impressive that everything else similar looks like a cheap imitation by comparison.."
That would work...
thanks for the advice then
since this is my first NS map..
i didnt realise thinking up a whole background story and all that would be worth the bother
on another note, dont you get money for killing the other team or something? isnt that how aliens get most of their income? (plus resource nodes duh)
and even if its not the case you cant say killing the entire other team wouldnt have its advantages.. if you just kept killing them they wouldnt be able to carry out the objectives
well whatever,
ill develop the idea further and be more specific about it, and then well see what hapens.
