Ok, there a way to find files once they have been deleted? Like msdos or anything?

There are some programs out there that allow you to find your deleted files, but I do not know what they are called off hand. I would use google. Ahhh... the power of google :-)

no, it is very posible to permanantly delete things <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

if you deleted something you didn't want to then DON'T DO ANYTIHNG untill you get the file back.

basicaly it is possibly still there, however you can now write over it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It's not impossible, just takes a few steps to do. If you normally delete something it doesn't actually get rid of the data, to do that you have to write over the data first. Which you may have already done.

IT is possible. The files u delete are just "marked" as deleted while physically they are still there. But if they get overwritten with other data, they are being damaged/destroyed.

don't do ANYTHING untill oyu get the file back.

the less data movement that goes on the less likely it is to over write a section of data.

just go and find the program and install it now.

    sorta.

just that you are endanger of over writing the file. Even by installing the rescue proggie, but thats a necesary risk <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Reformat your hard drive!
  • ObstObst Join Date: 2003-03-12 Member: 14436Members, Constellation
Even formatting doesn't delete them for good. But there are tools for this job that just overwrite the whole HD several times with random data, so ALL THE DATA gets raped :/

well, all you need to do is just write the entire drive full of 0s

    nothing left

    anywhere <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So you lied when you said you had gotten rid of your porn stash for good? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I've often heard of "how do I delete deleted files?" (you scramble your free space) But rarely this. A quick google search didn't reveal too much although I know I've seen stuff for this on a Mac (and it's much harder to find free data recovery apps.)

If you're really serious about recovering your data, put in another hard disk and boot off it, with the data recovery program on it. That way you're not touching the disk with the missing data at all before you run the recovery program.
