3d mod progie out there!
Im semi new to modeling.. and i was wondreing what would be best for game modeling.. ive looked through a couple fourm now and no one speaks of lightwave.

Whats are the pros and cons to:

Lightwave 3d
3dStudto max
Blender 3d
Milkshape
Truespace
Rhino 3d

or any others... i want to be able to create good/excelent 3d modes for a high preformance engine, and ive been using blender but its not very intuitive.

Best seems to be 3d studio max, but unless you want to shell out 399 bucks, go for milkshape, it's only $20 and still is pretty powerful

milkshape is pretty good cuz it costs only 20 bucks
but 3dsmax is a much more powerful program it has tools that make things faster and easier

3dsmax 6 student edition is $399... when you buy it from a college bookstore

student editions are a nice way to go for online modification and publishing work... if you contact the right people, you can get copies for cheaper. whereas i contacted my discreet dealer and got my version for $30 + shipping.

3ds max is by far the best, but takes a while to learn. whereas milkshape is by far the cheapest, and is awsome for introducing one to the world of 3D modeling.

howd u get it for $30 from a discreet dealer???

[edit] by the way, the best modelling tool now is supposed to be Softimage|XSI EXP for HL2. It's reely powerful, you can probably use it for modeling hl1 but it might b overkill, you can get used to it so you can model for HL2, IT'S FREE!

any modeller can model anything in any program if you know the tools the program has. higher-end packages like XSI, LW, max, and Maya just have the most tools and they do more than model. XSI exp is, of course the best choice for modelling for half life 2 because it can actually export the .mdl... but you can use anything as long as you can get the model into the right format (usually through milkshape...nice that it imports and exports pretty much everything)
