Snaaaakeee Eeeaater!
I'm deceived by the fact that even in 100% you shouldn't be able to stay right under the guy's nose and him not noticing you (for example, near the end in the black camo + facepaint) I mean, is it POSSIBLE to miss someone that obvious? I can understand missing someone right at your feet in the grass, if he has foliage on his back, etc. but being in a camo suit leaning against a tree while a guard passes no more than 2 meters away without seeing you is not... right. (For example, you'd also know in Splinter Cell the fact you can hide almost anywhere in the dark in the same manner).

Such is the way with all stealth games, really. And MGS has never been big on the realism side of things, as far as enemy's reactions and vision goes.
Most consoles can do far more than you think they can... if you know what I mean. O.k example, in FF7 Cloud looked like a freaking triangle, yet the graphics were "revolutionary" for the time, especially the FMVs (which were still quite blocky). Now compare this with FF8's graphics/FMVs. Same console, quite a large difference in graphics.
We have the same situation here; MGS2 was one of the first PS2 games, Snake Eater (from what little i've seen so far) is what the PS2 is REALLY capable of.
Or I could be wrong, I mean, it HAS been known to happen...

I was more thinking on stuff like not looking up in trees, not hearing all that well, or not noticing missing guards but not seeing a body at your feet is quite too much.
Yeah, a bit. But it's only a game, and it does have to be beatable after all. Truly intelligent guards would make the MGS games hellishly difficult, especially this one.

ya, but i thought it was kinda stupid when you would be hiding in Splinter Cell completely in the dark with those night vision goggles on your head and on (the ones with the 3 eyes) and they walk almost right up to you and not see it.
=/ kinda stupid. They could atleast run away and wet there pants. (who wouldnt when you have a 3 eyed green thing looking at you in the dark?)

It would ruin the suspense imo if they could see your three "eyes". For example, you would have to stay quite far away from the guards and not get close at all unless they were facing the other way. On the multiplayer Pandora Tomorrow the eyes are noticeable but not too much.
I <3 the ending of that video. I can't wait for this game.
Very awesome video. Great find Loke!
I don't think you can actually see them, they're just for affect.
Snake looks cool when he has the black uniform and black paint in his face, especially in the E3 video he looks cool.
Btw, Snake can have a snow uniform, which must mean that we will have a snowy landscape too. Sweet!
Not true. All the enemies have snow uniforms, he can probably get a ski mask to blend in with them.
Nice video, game play looks terribly slow. I want a speed run video, once the game's out and mastered.
Well, it DOES work that way. As ironic as it seems, any patterns that the human eye sees that is close to the background, will blend in together automatically. Fortunately, the army is smart enough to choose the right people for the job(eg a pilot on a mission where there is snow should be able to notice the difference between snow camo and actual snow and rocks)
Trust me on this, with the right patterns for camouflage, the human eye won't be able to notice the difference. Heck I could blend in with my own bed with just blankets or make a dummy of myself sleeping there. Jut don't ask why I did that, it'll be a stupid reason (did that 4 years ago)
Love the ending though, but I wonder where he pulled it out of hehe....must be teh magic utility belt.
The same place he keeps 16 seperate sets of clothes, an m16, fragmentation grenades, a radar, and a cardboard box! :P

His arse, or a magical purse like Link.
edit: I don't think camoflague should work at all if you're moving... sure it'd blur your 'outline' meaning you're harder to pinpoint but they'd sure as heck know you're there =P
Some of the camo scenes were amazing, I could barely make snake out myself and you have to remember that we actually know where he is already.
Course, sometimes the camo worked where I don't think it should've but nevermind... while the demo with the treebark and black paint worked extremely well I don't think a guard should've missed him in the play demo when he tried it with the cruddy woodland facepaint; he stood right out.
With tweaking though the whole camo thing could be really good, it's genuinely a better approach than the usual cruddy 'oh ho! I'm transparent' nonsense that some games use to indicate hiding =D
extra edit: liku, the mercs can see the spies green goggley things in the MP demo... I'd imagine they probably can in the full game too which I think is a lil silly considering they're supposed to be stealthy yet have these glaringly obvious green eye thingies lol.
I just used it when I was either team as a way of telling if it was my teammate or not. The Mercs can definitely see it up close though. It'd be interesting to experiment with it lol.
On the same note though I've had mercs literally walk past me so close they practically brushed against me... maybe they're only visible directly from the front? or when the spy is using a vision mode? o.O
I thought it was for seeing spycams and stuff lol.
As for being visible we were talking about the green lights of the nightvision goggles stevey =3
From what I've seen the few times I've been merc they're very visible when I come across a spy close up; I've never really checked if they're visible from far away ^^;
No quake-style here, thanks.
Heh, what are they doing?

Some cool images from behind the scene on MGS3, have a look.

But Mr. Nostalgia, don't you remember the Zelda cartoon? Roffles.

Someone's speed ran Twin Snakes, why not this one?

Yeah, it's kinda dumb at times. Like the guard would walk over to where he was laying in the grass and as the guard's a foot away, he backs of, parting the grass. I don't know about you, but if I saw that happen I'd know something's up.
Because this is little different from Twin Snakes. Here you must make use of your environments. Guards have a much more realistic field of vision (when not hiding in grass, behind trees etc.), and it looks like they have better AI.
YES!!!
