Steam Crash On Load

I know, I know, this is a steam specific problem and I should contact the friendly steam people or use THEIR forums. Done that, been a week, no replies at all... e-mail, forum posts, whatever. Cold shoulder. I'm kinda hoping that someone here might have SOME sort of answer.

Basically, some days ago, probably the 3rd since that's when the new update showed up, Steam now crashes every time it loads, with the message saying:<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->Steam has caused an error in STEAM.DLL.
Steam will now close.

If you continue to experience problems,
try restarting your computer.<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
In various FAQs and such, it reccomends that I delete the "STEAMUI.DLL" file so that it will redownload any updates, which should fix it. Unfortunatly, the same thing happens... it downloads, and when it finishes downloading fully, it gives me the same error. Rebooting doesn't help. I suspect there's something about the new update my computer just doesn't like...

I'm using WindowsME, and have a cable modem. Steam (and NSb3 for that matter) worked PERFECTLY the previous night, and then, next morning, this problem.

Suggestions anyone?

    Don't take this the wrong way but, reinstall. Steam needs that once every 2 months to function propably.

    Use the new installer. You shouldn't play NS until HL finishes downloading, though (right click -> properties to see the % downloaded)

    I haven't heard that you need to reinstall steam every 2 months, but if it works for you great. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    What has worked for me in the past is to go into steam folder and delete ClientRegistry.blob file. Doing so will force steam to go thru all the updates.

    I would try this first, it is a lot easier, before reinstall. Hope this helps.
