If you were going to release/ work on a hacked model, should you ask every person who was a part of the dev team for the other model for permission, or just give t hem props and credtis in the readmeh?

Cause i had a pretty cool idea while i was in the shower today, and im not sure how i should go about getting proper credentials to do the hack work

I think it's ok to release a hack if you fully credit, but personally i'd ask permission of the original creator first.

    lol ideas in the shower!

well its best to email the authors before you do anything to their work, if you get no reply wat so ever, OR it says in the credits of the model that you are going to use That you can hack it then go ahead!

HOWEVER YOU MUST CREDIT THE AUTHORS! other wise you can say bye bye <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

spedn time e-mailing and tracking down everyone on the list... i'm not talking like, 45 minutes, i'm talking more like, two weeks here...

if you don't ever get a response, include the original zip(s) and their readme(s)... if you get permission, you can leave out the zip(s), but make sure you include the credits for them, and the original readme(s).

Always ask the original creators when you can, unless they've explicitly stated that anyone is free to use their work as long as they are credited.

I usually spend about a week to two weeks if I can't contact a model author; after that, I'll simply credit him, add my own email to the readme if anyone knows where to find him, and ask that nobody mirrors the file without my permission (which right now the only sites I allow to mirror my stuff is T2K and NSA).

If you absolutely cannot contact the author at all, and can't reach him by any means, then he probably isn't involved enough with the HL community to care whether or not you hacked one of his models.
