First off, you should not take an arbitrary-number-of-Calories diet. Your diet should be based on your weight, and if you want to lose or gain weight. In fact, 2000k is what third world countries aim for, as a minimum. The average daily intake would be more around 3000+ Calories.
<a href='http://healthfitness.com.au/calculators/daily_calories_female.htm' target='_blank'>For the women among us...</a> <a href='http://healthfitness.com.au/calculators/daily_calories_male.htm#' target='_blank'>For the Men among us...</a> [I recommend reading what it says below too]
Your eating patterns determine what you can eat. If you get stuck in a pattern of eating the same kind of thing over a long period of time your body is able to regulate it better (there are exceptions, if you're lactose intolerant, you'll never process dairy right; if you're missing your gall bladder you'll never be able to eat more fat then your body can work out).
However, as long as you keep up with an alternate type of food, then your body should be fine. My cousin is on...what I like to call, The Chicken Diet. I'm not sure where he got it from, but his diet consists of eggs in the morning, chicken the other 2 times (and 3 protein shakes a day). Except every week he has 1 day where he's 'allowed' to eat whatever he wants. He's one of the more healthy people you'll see...except he has high blood pressure from working out to much.
American's are fat because they don't work out, not because they eat to much. Most people's metabolisms aren't fast enough to keep up with 'eat, eat, eat, walk to the fridge, eat, eat, eat.' Excersise will make you skinnier quick, if you do it every day and don't eat more than you burn (and you don't have genetic defects). Some people do have genetically faster metabolisms though, so....pffffft to them <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

I am not fat. In fact, I am underweight, if anything. Though, my friend is overweight, though I EAT MORE then he does when he is at my house. I've downed a super-size bag of Doritos in about 2 1/2 hours. I also rarely exersise.
Its not very hard to stay at a good weight. Just eat only when you get hungry and walk anywhere you need to go (if its with in 2 or 3 KM) Thats what I do and I'm only 175lbs (I'm 6'2 so I'm a tad on the thin side). just a little bit of walking and the will power not to eat everything you see and you can easly stay in good shape.

People in the US wanted to sue the fast food industry for their own eating habits...
Some mebers in congress want to put taxes on "junk food"...
McDonnalds is phasing out there "Super size" from under pressure from others...
As a healthy althletic american who has 4.2% body fat I say "wth" <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Dont sue on issues that is your own fault. Dont make me pay extra for potato chips b/c some people eat too many and get fat off them, and dont take away Super size because other people cant handle their own eating habits and must blame their problems on someone else.
Its all over the news these days "US kids watch too much TV! US Kids cant read! US kids are Obese!, The US is fat and lazy!
I speak for all the Americans who are not obese and put forth some effort to do something rather then camp out in front of the TV all day...
Dont make us suffer from your mistakes.
If you have a slow metablosim/disability etc and you are overweight fine. No problem. If you are obese simply for the reason b/c you cant get off the couch or say "stop eating so much junk food without any moderation".. well dont complain. Look in the mirror for the guilty party not in the legal system.

I'd like to point out that I'm 5'9" (...175ish cm) and weigh between 195 and 210 (depending of the day, and what I just ate and if I peed or something). I have 15-17% body fat and my blood pressure is perfectly normal (...when I'm relaxed). I have a terrible diet (in fact, I got food poisoing from one of the following items Saturday, and vomited for the first time in about 9 years: powdered sugar donuts, cadberry mini eggs, KFC (2 legs, a breast, mashed potatoes and a biscuit), cashews, apple juice and some soda.
I eat all healthy like that. I have a gut, and I look kindof fat, but I have a compact muscular frame that's sortof got some patches of fat tacked on. I'd also work out more if my roommate's chest didn't take up half the floor (I enjoy my pushups - in the morning, so they effect my metabolism for the whole day - when I can do them).
If you want to prevent weight gain: exercise whenever you're not doing something. Waiting for something in the microwave, jump up and down and chase the dog or something (can't do that here at school though).
Walking is also an excellent idea. I weighed 225 pounds junior year in high school...then 190 senior year, because I had to walk 3 miles home from school every day (pfffft, sister took the car to college). Personally, having a girl or something you want to impress can also get you to do that little bit more of working out.

I'm 5'6"ish and weigh 112 pounds at the last count, I have an extremely high metabolism and a slight blood sugar intolerance which means I burn up excess sugar very quickly. These factors are mainly what have kept me slim, conversely I'm now trying to build myself up some and these factors work against me (no extra nutrients to work with) and I'm what is apparently called a "slow-gainer"
However I've known many overweight/obese and just bloody fat people and some of them really did annoy me because they would complain about being overweight, **** at me for not being overweight, then sit on there **** and DO NOTHING. I walked to and from secondary school/college every school day for 7 years. Thats a distance of about 2km, twice a day, 5 days out 7. If overweight people tried some simple aerobic exercise once in a while they might actually feel healthier instead of sitting on there **** and catching the bus everywhere.
