Microphone/headphones

<div class="IPBDescription">Problem</div> Okay this happens to me like once every 6 or so months....It only goes away AFTER I reformat my computer, and I have no idea why.

Anyways, if I were to talk through my microphone, it doesn't really record anything AT ALL. But lets say I was listening to a song in winamp and while listening I try recording something, then it records the song with perfect quality.

When I'm in-game, it doesn't record my voice when I talk through my mic. but if someone is talking while I'm recording, it plays their voice. (which I can hear using the voice_loopback 1) command...

Is this some stupid button/option I might have turned on or something? I am really confused....help <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

-----------
I use the Sound Blaster 512 sound card. (I've already tried uninstalling/installing new/old drivers...nothing works)

    Everything is plugged in fine and all my recording volumes are up. I have Windows XP Professional. Mic boost is on also.
    I use an audio router thing so that I can have my speakers and headphones plugged in at the same time and all i do is hit a button to change which one I want to use. Even when I directly connect my headphones to the soundcard, nothing changes.

    When I do the sound hardware test wizard (I think it came with Valve/half-life) it says that I have an error during DirectPlay Voice setup. The error code is 0x80004005.

    Microsoft has a page on this and how to fix it, but so far it hasn't changed a thing <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I have some same problem too. Google doesn't seem to be helping me or I'm not looking enough.

    got direct x 9?

    look in the hardware config and see if you have any conflicts.

    voice_dsound "1"

    try that

    without winamp at first
