I Robot

If you were around, and remember, I once posted the site for this movie. They've released a trailer, doesn't seem that Asimov would be happy with the direction they went, but oh well.
(side note: why did all the stickies dissappear?)

I'm game.
Yes the book was very good. However, the film has Will Smith in it and he tends to be somewhat of a gimp most of the time.
I thought the same <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I think it looked pretty interesting. I never read the book so what do I know but oh well, Ill most likely see this movie.
Could this possibly be worthwhile for me to part with my cash to go and see it?
I wonder
One scene in that trailer got my attention though, they showed the robots being garbage men, and I just find that hard to believe. I can't see them laying off the real garbage men for robots, I'm sure the garbage men have a badass union to protect against those things.
Umm I, Robot the action movie? How does a science fiction suspense novel by Asimov turn into an action movie starring Will Smith, can someone help me?
He's a complete nightmare <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->, he should be in Roger Corman movies or something, everyone would be to busy laughing at the horrible script and stolen ideas from other more original movies to notice he's even there(which is a good thing).
You've never read Starship Troopers, have you?
I think it's based around the "I, Robot" universe. It would probably be incredibly boring if it were based entirely around the book, though I haven't read it.

Little known fact: Alex Trebek, host of Jeopardy, was a garbage man.

^^
random: hey I didn't know Trebek was a garbage man
as for I-robot, only time will tell
but.. just one thing.
the robots..
look LAME.
why do they look so LAME? i don't even normally use the word LAME but i have no alternative in this moment of tragic LAMEness!

I have actually. This looks worse. Starship troopers tried and failed. This movie doesn't even look like it's trying.
well, to start off with, a robot's 3laws logic core NEVER failed. Robots were never malicious. There was one exception and that was because the positronic brain was programmed with only half of the first law
full first law: A robot may not harm a human being, or through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
This exception was programmed with: A robot may not harm a human being.
So to attack, which only happened once, it simply placed its arm on a person's shoulder and then simply didn't counteract its own weight and allowed the person to fall under the weight of this very heavy arm.
All the stories were centered around the 3 laws. Various stories concerning problems where the laws came into conflict (resolved in later stories), problems where the laws balanced, issues concerning how they may act or become unstable, etc.
I probably won't see it.
I'm sorry to say this, but it sounds like the book would be a bit boring. Of course they're going to add bits and completely rehash most of the film, because most of the movie-going audience today want to see explosions and people falling over.
And it can't possibly beat the book-to-movie fiasco that "The Running Man" was. The film was ok, but the only thing it had in common with the book was the title and a few names.
And yes since someone already posted the spoiler to the book, which I was avoiding, the robots were never malicious and the only time a death happened was by accident.
The only thing I can think of is they are using the title sarcastically. Like a movie called "World Peace" about massive destruction and chaos because this just seems completely looney.

You expect servant robots to look like Gundams or transformers?

They need a book based around Of Time and Space and Other Things, also by Issac Asimov (heh.. inside joke to anyone who has read it)
