1) good ping - im sure this isn't a problem. 2) the atmosphere - aka admins that are fun, can take a joke or two, are not threatening, do not kick/ban when a noobie says something ignorant or stupid. 3) the name! - call the server "Pamela Andersons Boobies" - seriously 4) a good map rotation, do 2 ns_, 1 co_ and maybe 1 m vs m, rotate this to allow variation.. also take ns_mineshaft out of the rotation.. ugh. 5) add amx mods but make sure they dont lag the server / bring in too many noobs.
I didn't realise people judged the server so much by the name... it's a little odd that we never had a problem filling the server until late in 2.01 even then it was full most evenings until 3.0 came out.
Well actually it doesn't really suprise me that much, but there you go.
For anyone who still plays NS nd I guess I'm in the right place to find such people you'll find that Roob's Bubtastic NS, later known as Roob's *No Time For Muppets* and then *No Time for Muppets* until more recently NTFM.org (UK) is now known under the flag of "Caek&PAI! (UK) : NTFM.org & PlayZen.net"
Although I didnt reg there, 'No Time For Muppets' was one of my favourite servers back in the day. I dunno about the others, but I for one had no idea its back up.
I think part of the problem is that you guys need to do some old fashion pimping.
btw, since you guys have some spare servers, can you guys put up 1 reliable 1.04 server back up? Maybe you can attract some old-timers back, and maybe it will spill to the 3.0b servers <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
