    lol, yet another reminder why I jumped on UT2k4 for modding leaving HL behind =3

    Um... I might download it and give it a lil runaround but I can't really rate it considering I'm not a DM fan and so won't 'play' on it =/

    OOH! ~runs off to try invasion on it~

    In hosting tommy's site on the NW server, I was privy to seeing shots of this map as it developed. Very impressive. Also had a chance to play it a while back - I loved it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> It's some great work and really shows what someone can do in learning all aspects of the LD pipeline.

    And no, I wasn't sneakily snooping around, that's just what he had posted from time to time <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    How difficult is mapping for UT2k4 compared to Hammer/Worldcraft?

    Looks exceptional, by the way. Really beautiful.

    Not if your computer can run UT2K4 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> and the fact that much of that is modeled detail means that your computer will have a much easier time running it than it would otherwise. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Legionnaired: At its core, it's no more difficult than using WC/VHE. You have to learn an entirely different interface and design process to use it, though, and -that- is the difficult part. What is available to you in the Unreal technology is far greater, however, and much more of the pipeline is integrated into the editor.

    Bottom line: Both very powerful editors for what they do, just spend the time to learn them and they will give you much love. Though I dunno, tommy may beg to differ on certain points <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    VERY nice I must say. Then again, this is from the creator of ns_delta, so I should not be surprised!

    To be honest I'm biased towards Unreal Ed for mapping; it's far more powerful due to the engine not being so old, easier to use (no leaks to worry about really, zoning makes life easier and it's less likely to throw a fit at you in general) and... well... I just found it a nicer experience really =3

    The end result of anything you make in UED can always be bigger, bolder and more complex that poor HL and Hammer can allow, but there's a 5 year technology gap so is there really much surprise in that? ^^

    Downloading right now! Really nice work. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> That could even become one of the 'ownage' maps.

    May as well add this in while I'm tooting unreal ed's trumpet: the maps and the map source file are one and the same so as long as someone has the map it can be remade =3
    It also allows you to look at cool stuff you see in other maps and learn how it's done to provide inspiration or further your knowledge of mapping techniques.
    Pretty nifty all in all ^^

    Wow thats a nice map! I'll give it a 10.
    I've been playing with UnrealED as well
    but i've only just got the hang of vertex
    manipulation. What a great mapping tool
    that is compared to the likes of Hammer
    and Radient.

    woosh, that's pretty damn sexy. I'll make sure to give it a try.

    Sexy map!

    I might just have to get UT2k4 <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    And tommyd is a great mapper with awesome maps like ns_tanith, ns_delta, co_pulse and co_faceoff under his belt <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    it took me a while (like 2 months) to get used to the editor and the controls. the interface is way different than Hammer (selecting, rotating, and moving stuff is a pain). the editor is 10x more powerful though, and now i like it better than VHE, at least for the real time preview. most of the work wasn't in the editor at all - that's the easy part. most of the time was spent in Max modeling and unwrapping. plus skinning everything took a looong time. creating maps for the latest engines requires so much more time than a hl map. i made my co maps in like 2 days. the ut map took a month. i'm working on an ONS map now, and almost everything is being built in max first. hopefully it will be easier that way. ONS is much easier too, since 'less is better' for onslaught. most of the level is just terrain which is very easy to create.

    btw, the music is a song by <a href='http://www.inflames.com' target='_blank'>In Flames</a>. the map shouldn't lag most people with a decent vid card - i optimized it the best i could for an outdoor map.

    /me imagines ns2 on unreal eng 3. *drools*
