Is the origional NS abandoned?
I have seen some new beta posts on the main page, but i couldnt find any information telling me if there are any changes to the origional NS. I know alot of people probably like NS: Combat, but i dont care much for the idea of the whole thing and i was wondering if updating to the newer betas would actually change anything with the real origional NS? I like aliens fighting marines, new maps, new weapons, that kind of stuff!!
Anyways, id like to upgrade of course, so i can play new maps and stuff, but if dont want to play the new "combat" gametype, is there any other reason to bother upgrading? Does the upgrade offer anything to regular NS players?

No actually i dont have to upgrade. I have been playing NS 1.2 for quite a while, even just this morning and i didnt upgrade to any betas, or anything. Your post doesnt really make any sense at all to me-
Let me reword the question.... If i were to upgrade to NS beta version 3, would there be any changes at all to the regular version to Natural Selection, like new weapons, new models, skins, maps. that sort of thing. Or do all the updates and upgrades to the game have to do with "combat"?
You really should dig up the changelog and consult it for more details. But generally combat is just an add-on that came with beta3, most of the version upgrades feature only balance changes/bug fixes.
Also what version is 1.2? Wasn't last 1.xx 1.04?
Yes, there are a lot of changes from 2.01 to 3.0b3.
Lerk flight has been completely re-done, bite has been added again, lots of map updates, hitbox bugs have been fixed, onos now costs 75 res, focus has been added in replace of pheremones... The list goes on and on =)
NS is still being updated as well as CO, and changes are being made to both.
Anyway yes, NS Classic is much changed in 3.0b3. For better or worse is someting I can't really tell you, because I don't know which I like more myself. I know I'm definitely playing Lerk alot more than I used to. The new flight model is so boss, and the way it works with bite seems so much more useful than spikes were for everything but needling down marine outposts, which I don't think Lerks were suppsoed to be for anyway. Also, the reduced Onos cost gives habitual basebuilders like myself a chance to get in the endgame.
Edit: Forgot focus. I never use it, but some people are feckin' SCARY with it.
On the marine side, hand grenades are fairly useful, though slightly underpowered, I think. Catalyst packs are something I don't have much experience with, because they aren't used much. The building area limits aren't nearly as restrictive to compact base-building as everyone was worried they would be, and electrification's range has been upped a bit to partially compensate.
Actually alot of people still play the non-steam version of NS. I still like it. And the game is still fun... I just didnt want to install Steam unless it was really justified.
While i am happy with the game as a whole, i have never experienced lag until i installed Steam and played through it... y connection is as fast as the area can allow. And i live with a bunch of old people so i am like the only one in the neighborhood who uses highspeed modem so i have never had slow speed, even during the daytime. Why does playing through Steam lag my connection so bad. CS never lags either, not until i played it through Steam. I always get connection errors and eventually have to quit Steam completely in order to rejoin a game. Any ideas? My settings are all correct and i have checked everything else i could think of..... I feel lost!
If I knew what kind of High Speed you were on I could help you more...
