What's the catch? Why do I say supposedly? Because it's in japanese!!! ^^;

    This looks like a Front Mission game. Is it on PlayOnline or a seperate network?
  • GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
    well it's PlayOnline and from what I read up it's very much like Armoured Core and Front Mission =o

    shadows seem to be little more than a little circular decal... though it is beta so I won't judge based on that. I've played things similar to this in beta, and they were a lot of fun, but until I can read up on this, I'm not getting excited.

    Front Mission Roxorz joo soxorz. I've only played the 1st one, but customizing your mechs was too cool for pants. Of course, in the end, you have a fleet of identical robots, since all you have to do is buy the best parts, but you know...it was cool.(GIANT ROBOTS)

    I'm thankful I can read a bit. But not too much because there is simply too much Kanji on that site <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    But there's a downside to it. Win98SE users will have to download a seperate program or so it says, because of some sound issues.

    EDIT : Oooo look what you're enemies can be using <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> These are called Ghouls (actually I think the enemies are called Ghouls)
    <img src='http://www.junkmetal.net/jm/img/game_p05.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

    DOUBLE NINJA EDIT : I figured what that is. Battle Robot 'Ghoul'

    But what's this about a Frontier Level System? I can't make out anything in it....

    TRIPLE NINJA EDIT : BTW, there's a customization screen. And I have to say, it's really a bit bigger than the original Front Mission's customization section.

    Robot types : Bipedal type, <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> type (most likely mobile type because the description says they are the most agile type), Many-legs types (can't come up with a better name) hover type (OMG!) and Tank types.

    Customizable to be in small, medium or large size. Combat customization includes close-combat, long-range, and midrange types.

    Can be mixed to form a 'Junk Variation' type. Sounds pretty damn sexy. Maybe except the word junk.

    QUADRUPLE NINJA EDIT : Can't believe I'm editing ths much.
    Essentially there are also at least 5 vision settings, essentially called Software Settings.
    Vision and battle modes include :
    - Standard (however on the site it says Standed)
    - VISU (specialized for long ranged vision and LR combat I suppose)
    - Neuron (specialized for close ranged combat. The site says it is rare and requires Aegis parts)
    - Night vision (guess what it does)
    - Stealth detection (creates noise when there are camouflaged robos nearby)

    QUINDUPLE NINJA EDIT : OMG this much editing?! What am i FFS?!
    More info on Ghouls. There are at least 3 common types you can encounter. And 8 rarer ones.
    The three common types are :

    - Hoppers (Specializes in jumping. Don't try to think it's useless though it's got an auto tracker gun, which makes it able to pick shots at yu when in midjump)
    - Theatrical (Almost the same as a standard bipedal model. Comes with an Assault Rifle and Wristblade)
    - Dullard (The one I pictured above. Most armored of the 3 and the most powerful I presume)

    And there are around 8 more rarer types. However the website didn't give the names for them.

    Front Mission 4 is due out on the PS2 very soon and should be quite fun although the people in it look a tad od..

    While your waiting you could always play FM3 on the PSX, its old but still fun <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    As for this game just looking at the GFX makes my GF2 want to croke. I really need to upgrade lol

    Unfortunately, yes it IS P2p, which I just found out a while ago <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    No. PVP. Player Vs. Player.

    If it has no PVP, it'll get old fast.

    Call me an ****, but an MMORPG gets old fast if I can't become a PVP master and steal everyones hard-earned equipment. Actually...MMORPG's get old fast with that anyway.

    Did I mention all MMORPG's suck?

    Or maybe he just doesn't like MMORPG's. I love how everyone who is a "bad gamer" is automatically assumed to be a Counterstrike lover.
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
    Perhaps Quaunaut feel testament was effectively the scum of MMORPGS because he lived to take "hard-earned equipment" away from others and make the game less fun for them.
  • TestamentTestament Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4037Members
    I prefer RPG's like Neverwinter Nights (or rather, the MMORPG-ish world I play on. It has the goodness of the MMORPG's, without the suck.) or Knights of the Old Republic. I've yet to find an MMORPG that was fun.

    It's a mech MMORPG.

    If MS do a Battletech MMORPG, and DESTROY Battletech like they did for MW4, I'll cry.

    Agreed, at the current rate of suckage increase after mechwarrior 4 (Mercs being the exception) a BattleTech mmorpg from microsoft would look something like <a href='http://www.game-revolution.com/games/pc/sim/survivor.htm' target='_blank'>THIS GARBAGE.</a>

    Anyway, to try and drag this back on topic before the lockmonster descends, does anyone know enough Japanese to translate some documentation for us? This looks like it could be a really neat game.
  • GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
    actually testament it's an MMO FPS RPG mech game. The difference being you have to aim in combat and whatnot which makes it considerably more involved that the usual.

    My japanese isn't good enough to even come close to reading the site, otherwise I'd be hauling rear onto the beta as we speak =3
    To be honest I suspect the 'rpg' side is more about the fact you're the pilot and can walk about town when you're not out and about blatting stuff with your mech.
    Either way I'm interested XD

    Oh and according to some english site or other you have to find some of the rarer mech parts though it doesn't exactly say how =o

    If it functions with the US PlayOnline (I've still got my FFXI Beta stuff, so I can just install PlayOnline. Hopefully it updates to the retail client.) and someone makes a playing guide a la Final Fantasy XI before its English release, I'm gonna get this.

    In order to get rarer parts, you have to defeat some of the rarer Ghoul bots (don't ask which one, I don't know!)

    I got a small load of info in the front page. Of course, my japanese is a bit on the rusty side, so don't expect it to be 100% accurate.

    CForrester : I doubt it would work with US PlayOnline. I tried to read through the registration steps, but the only word I could understand were 'Square-Enix' and 'Credit Card' <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    EDIT: Found the system specs page. Sadly, it's a bit high. And quite unavailable to us (unless you understand every ? that you come across)

    Minimum requirements :

    OS - Microsoft Windows 98SE*/ME/2000/XP <b>Japanese edition</b>
    CPU - Intel Pentium 800mHz and above
    RAM - At least 256MB RAM
    Graphics Card - nVidia Geforce 2MX and above VRAM32 or higher
    or ATI Radeon9000 and bove VRAM32 or higher
    Hard disk space - 1.5 GB or more free space (!)
    DirectX Version 8.1 or higher
    Sound - DirectX8.1 compatible cards
    Internet connection - 64kbps modem

    *Windows 98SE/2000 users will experience no sound or SFX feedback. You can download a patch at our download page to fix this problem.

    Here's a linky to the system reqs page. You can just replace the figures by yourself. I mentioned them in the exact same order so you don't have to bugger me about it.

    seems the 'open beta' I'd read about on other pages started on february the 14th so I'm kinda doubtful that it's not the full game already ^^;
