Mic Problems

Hey, I have recently started having some mic problems for no reason. People say that I am really choppy and break in and out. Any help? I know it's now my mic because I have tried my friend's and it works fine on his computer. I have already typed in some console command, I don't really remember what it was though. Any suggestions or console commands?

boost ur CL_CMDRATE and CL_updaterate values

that always works for me, and for anyone else who has a choppy mic...

    Try updating sound card drivers.

    if that doesn't work, do voice_dsound 0

Do you get low FPS? If you get 1-30fps as your average range of FPS, you will break up a lot of the time (when your FPS drops).

Its almost certainly your rates. As suggested, increase your cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate.

    solution:

    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...showtopic=67374' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...showtopic=67374</a>

    <a href='http://www.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55995' target='_blank'>http://www.steampowered.com/forums/showthr...&threadid=55995</a>

well, if you don't want to sift through that spamfest of a thread at Steam Fourms, the solution that worked for just about everybody was voice_dsound 0.

But also, it apparently needs to be set back to 0 every map change.

I found that it was the cmdrate and updaterate though, try jiggling with those settings.

if it has to be changed ever new map then you could jus add it to your config file as a script, right?

You would have to put it in your userconfig.cfg, config.cfg would revert back to normal if you put any script in it after you close the game.

voice test in HL is junk.... I got a choppy mic but it works in CS perfectly.... voicetest is just to show that your mic works with the engine....

its junk but it helps somewhat. After I wrote that, I went and tested mine in the mic test. First time it was choppy so I stopped it and started it again. And then it wasnt choppy. I think it mostly has to do with his windows + hl mic settings. The volume levs and etc.

Q: what does dsound actually do and what would I have to do to add it as a script?

i don't really know what voice_dsound does(exept fixing my mic)

but i do know.. you have to put "

    voice_dsound 0

    into your script:) (userconfig.cfg)
