    start over? my version of owen's HMG is 1900+ polys, no way that light saber needs to be 1700+. send/upload a .ms3d of it and i can try to optimize it, or at least tell you how (it's easier looking at the actual model then pictures.)

    sure thing take a look at it! There's a bit extra polies on the grips than i can get away with, and theres a ring in the back thats made of a torus and its a bit big.

    the thing on the bottom is way too high poly. As well are the things (donno what to call them) that surround the bottom of the grip... they look like they'd hurt if you grabbed them... use a 6-sided cylinder for the blade... it's going to be alpha-transparent, so you'd never see how many sides it has. my edited version of yours is only 778 polys, and you still get the same affect.

    crud howd u get it to 778? Did u remove the back d-ring?

    that and lower the blade's cylinder side count, and the pointy things that were on the handle are now just 4 boxes

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->And I installed cinema 4d but its reely complicated and all i want to use it for is rendering, not modelling.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    first you'll need to export your ms3d file (by going file>export) as something that cinema 4d can open (i use dxf) then go file>open on the right of the page in cinema 4d, kinda near the top, and choose it. Youll probably need to scale your model down a bit then you should put a floor in, objects>scene>floor. Tell me if you understand that <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> , my version may be different to yours

    btw is there anyway to save a picture of the render using the demo version without taking a screenshot?

    looking good <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> . go render>render to picture viewer if thats in your version, then you can save it as a bmp or whatever. And to change the size of the picture that it renders go render>render settings>output> then change the resolution bit <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> . Oh, and one thing that looks good <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> click on the light and change the settings (should be in the bottom right somewhere) so where it says shadow, it is set to soft in the drop down menu, see how that looks. Hope that helped..

    yeah i guess the blade was a cylinder... well i wanna use Bash's version of mine because its alot less polies, if he could give it to me.

    by the way the blade is gonna be 2 cylinders: a thick glowwy one in the middle and a much lighter glowwy one on the outside.

    edit: lol i think thw reason i made the cylinder thick at the bottom and thin at the top is because im used to seeing those little fake lightsabers that kids have... you know the ones that when u swing they slide out? heh <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->
