You can get a Radeon 9800 Pro for $200-$250 if you want to save up a little more. Otherwise you can get a 9600XT for about $150 right now.

I don't really know, but I got a really old one and am looking to upgrade for the same price range. So I'd like to know also.

While the 5900XT from Nvidia surpasses the ATI 9600XT from ATI and is in the same price segment, the ATI 9800PRO easily owns both and i only ~$50 more. So at the current time the ATI 9800PRO is the ultimate chose cause an about ~10% faster ATI 9800XT is about ~$300-400 <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm in the market for potential video cards, but here's my issue.

Money isn't much of an issue, I'll spend maybe $300 USD if it'll last me a good 2.5 years at least. I've owned a Radeon 32MB in the past, and had so many trouble with it that I wanted to shoot it. It took ATi 6 months to release drivers for it to allow me to play video games, even then, it wasn't that great. I've heard that ATi still has the same problems with it's drivers but it has gotten a lot better than it used to be.

I currently own an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, and it plays games fairly well. I can have good detail settings and resolutions and play some rather intense games at around 30 FPS (Halo, the Soldner demo and it runs CoD oh so smoothly.) I haven't had many troubles with it, and the ones I did have, an updated graphics driver fixed it. I've heard that ATis are better than NVIDIA but by how much? And is it enough to warrant an extra $50-$100 USD for them or should I get an NVIDIA?
