Teeny Tiny Vent Entraces, How Do You Deal?

navigating maps like co_kestrel
I think it's co_kestrel anyway: it's the combat map with the huge marine spawn with an skulk overlook over two armories and a network very small vents.

I was mostly wondering if anyone had developed strategies for skulking these vents. It seems like I spend ridiculous amounts of time circling around the entrances to the vents, but because they are so small, it's very hard to get in. Particularly hard are going down the vents that are placed in the middle of the floor, with no wall to help guide you down.

Do people have strategies for getting into these vents? Is there something to aim at that gets you in reliably?

    Leap is the easiest way.

hold crouch and you'll drop right down

But even that has to be lined up just right to work, especially on the vents in the floor. I once got trapped in a red room whose only two exits were those tiny vents in the floor. Help, it's a lobster trap for skulks!

not really, you just hold crouch and walk over the vent

I though you meant the entrances on ceilings, ive never had a problem with floor entrances.

Have you tried walking or pressing "use" key while trying to get into vents? I'm not sure if "use" key still slows you down though but pressing your walk key should slow you down enough to make it easier to slip in those hard-to-get-into vents.

    that vents are awfully thin.
only get beaten by the new ns_veil vent you can not enter.

ns_agora is a better example, IMO.

If you're playing ns_ mode, use the mini-map to help you negotiate your way to the vent entrance, by checking the darkness or lightness of a vent's exit on the mini-map , you see if you need to crawl up or down to get into it.

Usually, leap is the best way to get into a vent which is horizontal, like in a wall.

If the vent is at your feet, just hold duck and walk over the hole to fall through.

If the vent is in the roof, leap can work, but you need to be careful not to smack the edge of the vent and not make it. I've seen fades and skulks all get shot down because they kept bumping the lip of the vent and not making it in.

Most of the time, if you miss your first attempt, just run away using some other route.

Sometimes, there will be walls and out-hangings that keep you from easily wall-walking your way into the vent. It's good to keep an eye out for places that have smooth, flat walls, so that you can use those areas to get onto the roof, and then roof-walk to the vent. It sounds complicated, but once you get really used to using the walls and roofs to climb into vents and tiny spots, you'll be a vent-crawler in no time.

Also, don't forget, a lot of this has to do with using your mouse. If you're trying to get into a little vent in the roof, aim straight up into the roof, and just slowly "push" your way forward until you slip into the vent. Line it up straight, otherwise you'll "slide" past the opening of the vent, and have to turn around and try again.

There are some vents that seem like they are hard to get into sometimes, but just go slow over them and hold crouch.

if its a vent against a wall, try to crawl directly above the vent and hold croutch while moving foward so you'll drop right into the vent.

If its a vent on the ceiling....it'll just take a while to get in unless you have leap.

Ditto, at first i'd circle around the vent's entrance for hours, now i just get them on the first try. You just need to keep practicing.

Getting into small vents as a skulk isn't hard at all with a little practice. Blinking into them as a Fade can be another matter entirely, particularly when under fire...
