just a little random posting... im at school, and quite bored.
half-life is half the time it takes for a cell to decay
lambda is i think the distance between wavelengths... im not sure...

    I learnt what half-life was the other week aswell lol. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
    it halfs and halfs and halfs and bla bla bla cant be bothered to think or get my book just for a post!

    P.S: 700th post yay.

    it's not half the time it takes for a cell to decay, it's the time it takes for half the cells to decay, lol.

    And lambda isn't the distance between wavelengths, lol, it's the wavelength itself <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    close though <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    Half-life...

    ?

    Half-Life has nothing to do with any part of biology to the best of my knowledge. It is the time it takes for half a radio active to decay. Things with long half-lives take a long time to decay while ones with short half-lives decay in days or even minutes, and are usualy only found in lab conditions.

    Who said anything about biology?

    Oh, and Lambda is also a constant factor in just about every equation of the chaos theory.

    woah, theres a constant in every equation of the chaos theory, doesn't that defeat the point? <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    It's also a very common variable name for any parameter in maths, along with mu and sigma, it's just easy to pick and hard to mix up. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    biology came up because they were saying cells

    Lambda is a Greek letter.  A variable, just like X, Y, Z, Beta, Alpha, Theta.

    It could mean or be anything.

    but is most often used as wavelength as a convention.

    Lambda's also used to represent the decay constant, which is an easier way of calculating the activity of a radioisotope.

    Actually, if you look at the Half-Life box, it's got one of the equations on the front...

    <i>t</i>½ = ln 2 / lambda

    Where <i>t</i>½ is the half-life in seconds... <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    I get confused because of Half Life.

    I always think that the symbol for it is lambda.

    Damn you Sierra! I dropped Chemistry because of you!(not really)

    the a in half life is the lambda symbol is it not?

    Would it even be considered an "A"?

    On the topic of facts:
    Why is a rifle called a rifle?

    I thought it was because the process of cutting the spiral grooves into the barrel that make the bullet spin is called "rifling"?

    Top of me head answer, could be lunacy...
