1) Did you upgrade to beta 4? if not you won't be able to connect because most every server has upgraded to beta 4 by now.
2) Are there enough player slots free? Sometimes, servers have reserved player slots, probably for admins or whatnot, so even though it looks like there's a free slot, there isn't.

It's very likely that you have not installed the anti-cheat software called Cheating Death. You can find it <a href='http://www.unitedadmins.com/cdeath.php' target='_blank'>here</a>.
You have to install C-D Client v4.18.1 and your problem will be resolved (most likely).
Don't forget to update it once in a while.
