<div class="IPBDescription">I need a measuring tape...</div> Reading the manual, I notice that the Defense and Movement chambers affect stuff within 400 units? How much is that, right next to it or across a room or what? Apologies in advance for my nubbiness.

Edit: The title was meant to read Heck not Keck. I shouldn't have just drunk a big mug of hot chocolate.

    I too have always wondered this. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much 400 units is.

    I'm not positive, but I think the LA marine is 75 units from head to foot. Hope that helps.

    My assumption is that the "units" used are those used by Hammer (previously known as Worldcraft) for mapmakers. If so, then it's not quite equivalent to feet, inches, or any metric measurement unit.

    [edit]To give you another idea, many of the crates in HL singleplayer were 64, 128, or another base-2 unit measurement tall.

    A unit is about 10 deciunits. Hope that helps.

    A unit is the smallest possible length width height a wall (or any map object) in halflife can have.
    Also hulls (were what sized unit can move or not) and all colision detection is sized in units.

    A Skulk is 32*32*36 (width*length*height)
    A Marine is 32*32*72
    An Onos is 64*64*108
    see nshulls.hull or nshulls.txt

    <b>This makes:
    50 units = 1 ingame meter</b>
    400 units = 8 meter (dc range)
    1200 units = 24 meter (~siege range)

    Thanks guys. I find now that if I think of the range of a Defense or Movement chamber as being 5.5 marine-heights that makes things easier to visualise.

    But its sometimes not that easy to lay 5 marines in a straight row to a dc just to test its range.

    So get 12.5 marines to stand next to each other to test the range.

    So marines are 1.44 m tall... I bet, TSA does not have a basketball team... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    1 unit = 1 inch making all marines 6 feet tall.

    40 (39.68) units = 1 meter

    400 units = 10 meters = 33 feet (approx)

    There you go <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Not precisely true. You can crank the grid down smaller than 1 unit. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->
