It's pretty good, the only problem I had was with the combat. Click/Double-click and it's basically over. I doubt they'll do an overhaul, which is a shame. Also, remember that Gem is probably the harshest MMO critic you'll come across. I think fun was had, regardless of the horrid combat.
I got the pc gamer cd, but I haven't installed it. But from you guys feedback, seriously, you're all spoiled by CoH.
I means autoattack is the norms of most MMORPG. CoH is the very exception not the rule
Having said that, I won't be installing it though.
Feedback casues the target to take 22 damage if it casts. Can be handy aginst casters.
Epidemic causes all monsters near the target to inherit ALL debuffs on that target. Which means you could debuff one enemy severly with a necro, then use epidemic, and tah-dah, EVERY monster nearby is now debuffed severly.
Energy Drain, if activated during an enemy cast, casues the cast to fail, and you get energy equal to the spell's cost. This can be used to counter enemy spells and keep them off the attackers efficently.
So, in conclusion, playing a class that doesn't stand there and hit things can be quite intresting!
solo is just the starting mission sonic, get past that and you're into MMO land ^^
I was on chatting with more Devs again. I don't think they'll be taking auto-attack out any time soon =/
Red, sounds good but the fact it's boring to play a 'hitty things' person isn't really a positive. Everyone of every class should be able to enjoy the game instead of rolling about in auto-attack land ^^;
~hugs CoH~
I'll give it a shot with a messer... suit's my playing style more anyways I guess.

Did the first couple of missions , did one of those battle thingys where you have to kill the big guy , got naked and danced around a bit , that was prolly the most exiting part.
Of course, it IS important to remember that the closed beta is going to take place at the end of this year.
So give the game a little time - it's quite obviously in early, unpolished stages. But everyone (yes, even Gemmeh ) has to admit that tis game has serious potential. Just try to hold off condemning it until more of the actual game is in place
Was REALLY awesome, never really played MMPORG's due to $$, but this looks very promising. Well, I went on a quest with 3 others, and we got very far until getting whooped by some pretty powerful dudes.
dubb, I've alpha'ed games before, I know what it means ^~ In many ways it's the reason I'm still pounding away at it... I honestly believe by voicing myself loudly enough at this early point the devs will listen and the scourge of auto-attack won't find it's way into the final product =D
edit: the devs said they tend to read the IGN board set up for this E3 alpha so I've posted about it in there hoping they'll take note and others will gather behind it =3 Auto-attack is seriously what marrs this game for me more than anything else.
I've just created a Monk/Elementalist character. I've named him "Kakuseiki Selrath". (Chose Kakuseiki because the title of m1dy's latest album is "Kakuseiki is BACK!!" No idea where I got Selrath, but it's got to be the lamest thing I've ever typed.)
Come to #nsgw to talk Guild Wars and stuff.
And post on my IGN thingy if you agree with my stance on auto-attack... sure you have to register but if it means the difference between this game being more in your hands isn't it worth it? =3
been trying it with an auto-attackless char (necro/monk) and it's a lot more fun. Needs polish like your char turning to face what you're attacking and being able to go into mouselook mode permanently ala CoH but a promising alpha those and auto-attack aside ^^
This is an amazingly beautiful well running game, that takes almost no time to download the different areas. Too bad it's just a click on the bad guy and watch game: I was expecting something fast paced and frentic like Diablo where you had to scramble to cast that one spell before getting one last whack on the boss before it was time to huff a potion and freeze all the monsters. Instead I bought a longbow and sat there and clicked once. All the spells I have (I'm a monk/elementalist) are useless. In the time it takes to cast a healing spell someone's taken that much damage already, and in the time it takes to cast an offensive spell I could have done more with my bow.
Sure, it's free, but if I want hack and slash I'll take Sacred, otherwise for my MMORPG fix I'll take Star Wars: Galaxies.
Such a pity, too, because those are some darn fine graphics.
nope quanaut, you're forgetting I took a necro to avoid auto-attack =P if I use any spells I don't turn to face the target. As for mouselook with CoH, I mean toggled, not 'hold the mouse button down' XD I toggle it on then play almost the whole game with it on... I loathe point and click outside of stuff like sam and max
edit the fact it auto-paths if you're out of range when using an ability is a pain in the rear too. As is trying to target corpses (I trying to select stuff with the mouse) and when you target with the button you can't even see what you're targetting half the time because the reticle is around their feet... they need to add a box around the target or something more noticable =/

as I said.
targetting system is horrible.

yah.. as I said, I would keep testing if it wasn't for the nasty crash it caused on my system
I dono, if the combat stays anytihng like it is now I just don't see me liking it...
I am still ticked at the AOE heal healing mobs......
so stupid

Loot drops suck for the most part (no special armor or weapon drops I have seen yet). On the flipside the missions are pretty fun and varied.
One cool story: On the second mission to retake the North wall, my group kept getting killed by the last bost and his dozen or so companions. Then we realized there was a catapault that would hit a few yards from where he was... we had somone pull him into the spot, fired the catapault, and wiped out everything in a single swift blow. Killed our team member, but we completed the mission and everyone got xp.
And yes, it is hack and slash, but the only way they could remedy that would be to make it turn based. That could be fun, but the word "turn based" usually reminds people of stuffy war sims. The only class that requires situational strategy are casters, there isnt much to swinging a sword.
you need to play City of Heroes Tensix... it's a lot more strategic than GW and has no auto-attack without resorting to turns any more than Guild wars has.

When I do have it, I will be Mantrid Bross, and either an Elementalist or Necromancer.
But yeah, I'd like that too, though NOT CoH's way. That **** me off.
But don't worry guys- should be back up 10:00am PST tommorrow, being E3 starts then, I believe.
