I can hoarde over my friends and say "Look, mine is shinier than yours!"
Well...I just have to ask what your big games from 2001-2003 were, then.
And what your big E3 show stoppers are, since it seems, everbody hates Stalker, HL2 and Halo 2...Apparently Doom3 is the only appealing game on the horizon...
[You know, the nazis didn't like Halo either... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ]
Elites...in <i>multiplayer?</i>
*PUMPS FIST IN AIR*
Also, I'm pre-ordering now to get the special edition! I don't care what all you PC fanboys have to say - the Halo series will always have a place in my heart!
Well, erm, it's awfully average so far. I think I've seen this room 10 times now. The little car is fun, though!
No, the multiplayer does not, by any means, suck.

NS Boi. Halo was overrated, I'm not saying it's bad, but as DOOM [I believe said] a lot of the game was just a copy/paste of the room before it.

A fact that many fail to realize still holds true for many games today.
Tell me your City of Heroes is great, and I'll tell you that I've been through the same exact office building about a dozen times in different locations. Yes, this is a MMO game, but the principle still stands - I'd have liked to see a bit more variation.
Tell me your MGS2 is great when the entire shell mission was basically a massive copy + paste.
It just simply <i>astounds</i> me to see that the one and only thing people can use to combat said Halo "fanboyism" is a vicious double-standard that only seems applicable in Halo, for some whacked out reason or another. And even more surprising is the fact that this "copy and pasting" only occurs in two levels in the entire game. Perhaps you would have rather unleashed some Covenant fashion designers and done a <i>Trading Spaces</i> type of getup?
Oh that brushed metal is SO <i>blah</i>. I was thinking purple velour drapes...

And to point it out before anyone else: The Pillar of Autumn and The Maw along with Assault on the Control room and Two Betrayals are 'levels in reverse'. Even though they are basically the same they play out very differently, and it works nicely, they allow you to go to new areas and look different (so they're not really copy and pasted looks at the other level. Arguably, Keyes and Truth and Reconciliation could also fall in this category (but only at the docking bay part).
The only truely copy and pasted level parts would be the Library (which any sane person would tell you sucks - unless you want to play 'arcade style Halo' where shooting is the order of the day) and the hallways are copies of eachother in the alien and human ships (for the early levels, at least).
Still, who spends hours staring at walls anyway, you're supposed to be following the linear shooting rampage they set before you (which should be the only real complaint, but it falters on some levels where you can change the path by exploiting/being ingenious/just choosing).
In other news, Halo 2 looks set to improve every aspect of the first (although, there seem to be a few to many reflective-ish textures). Also, the movie on ign is basically a camera circling around...I don't really see anything special about it (although, they got cool Joe's voice in there, heh)).
Anyways, the videos are awesome, though the graphics could of course be better if they were on PC.
That energy sword looks totally badass. It's about time we saw something like that in an American game. I'm gonna be using a deadly combo - sniper rifle/sword. I can't tell you how excited I am over being able to slice those cocky pistol **** on Live... That sword is friggin' boss!

Well, they can't quite give away TOO much yet. With time the information will come, young grasshopper. I was actually QUITE excited to see the armor customization - I like the idea of seeing a bunch of unique MC's running around.
And how 'bout them covenant. Saucy.
Hey, at least you don't gotta buy a whole damned new wireless router! F***ing...

Erm *Deus Ex. (Early 2001) Which is without a doubt ten times better than Halo.
*Call of Duty. Speaks for itself.
*Nearly every GameCube exclusive game to date.
*Natural Selection
*Tribes 2. Great MP fun.
*UT2003.
I could go on, but I wouldn't want to embarrass you further. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Starchy, those kind of words make me want you to die.
You're the fanboy.
The only games that can compare with Halo on your list were Deus Ex and NS. Other than that, no. There is only one good Gamecube game as far as I'm concerned, and I'm not changing my mind: Metroid Prime.
I wasn't a fan of Halo's singleplayer, but it looks like the MP is going to rock again.

Call of Duty: Not that it was bad, but wasn't there already five million WWII games?
Tribes 2 and UT2k<b><i><u>3</u></i></b>!? I trust you no longer!
Yeah, The Library was DEFINENTLEY the worse level in the game. The only other level I can think of that got repetitive (forgot the name) didn't have repetitive gameplay, the level areas let you experiment with a lot of different things the game lets you do.
It was the level where you had to walk into the blue beam-ey thing to shut something down...

Sounds like Two Betrayals to me. And yeah - I can admit that that level tends to drag on.
But back to the topic, now; I'm really pumped about the IGN multiplayer hands-on that I read last night. (<a href='http://xbox.ign.com/articles/513/513152p1.html' target='_blank'>here</a>)
Destructible environments, vehicles, covenant multiplayer goodness, new gametypes, custom symbols...
I've decided right now - I WILL get that special edition copy. Two DVD's plus a purdy case plusm HALO FREAKING TWO is enough to keep me warm for a year. <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->
On topic: I knew a lot about multiplayer and being able to play aliens in it, but then Halo multiplayer was always extremely enjoyable (if the connection was stable.) Not many games really gave you a feeling of driving an actual vehicle and not a large blocky thing that weighed 100,000 tons. All for all, Halo was a great leap forward in console games, and this one looks to be another great leap. But if they do release it on computer, they shouldn't be surprised to see lack luster sales compared to other games. With the horrid performance of the first one, many people will probably be very reluctant to buy it for PC till they see that it will work well on their computers. But of course, the idea of akimbo needlers in multi, makes my trigger fingers itch!
